Hillforts on neighboring hills

Distinct traces of a large hillfort and the earthworks surrounding it are visible on Góra Królowej Bony. Next to it lies Wzgórze Św. Wawrzyńca. There is also a hillfort there, dating approximately to the 9th to 10th centuries; it includes settlement remains and the remains of a church. The two hills offer different historical points of interest: visible fortification traces define the landscape on Góra Królowej Bony, while Wzgórze Św. Wawrzyńca also features an approximate date and remains of a settlement and church. For those interested in culture, this offers a comparison between the traces of a large hillfort and the further archaeological remains at the neighboring site.

Stach Konwa: monument and commemorative event

In the Jednaczewski Forest, a clearing on the edge of the Rycerski Kierz nature reserve is home to a monument to Stach Konwa. It was erected in 1922 at the presumed site of his burial. Stach Konwa Clearing is also the setting for patriotic commemorations organized by the Łomża municipality since 2022 around Stach or Stanisław’s name day on May 8. They are accompanied by the family event “Kurpiowska Majówka u Stacha,” featuring historical and educational activities. If you would like to plan your trip around this event, check the current dates in advance.

Cultural heritage sites in Puchały

Puchały also offers its own cultural and historical highlights. The register of immovable cultural heritage sites there includes six items: a churchyard, a Roman Catholic cemetery, a brick cemetery chapel dating from the early 20th century, and a wooden cemetery chapel from the mid-19th century. There are also two avenues: the Puchały–Milewo lime-tree avenue and the Puchały–Milewo horse-chestnut and lime-tree avenue. Cemetery areas, chapels and avenues stand side by side here, offering different ways to explore the history of the place. If the current legal status is important to you, check the register entry separately.

Riparian forest and wildlife near Pniewo

The Wielki Dział nature reserve near Pniewo is part of the largest naturally formed riparian forest complex in the Narew Valley. It is a permanent refuge for cranes, black storks, lesser spotted eagles, white-tailed eagles, moose, wolves and deer. Naturally, whether any of these animals appear during a visit may vary. Wielki Dział thus combines the character of a riparian landscape with the opportunity to observe wildlife, though specific sightings cannot be planned in advance.

Trails through protected areas and birdwatching

In the Łomża municipality, tourist trails pass through protected areas, including the Łomżyński Park Krajobrazowy Doliny Narwi. They offer direct contact with nature. The viewpoint in Siemień Nadrzeczny is a specific place to start birdwatching: from there, you can observe many of the birds that live in the landscape park. Bird presence varies naturally with the seasons. So if birdwatching is a priority for you, take the time of year into account when planning.
