A 17th-century wooden building, a Sacred Miniature Park with outdoor activities and several cycling options give Olszowa a variety of travel highlights. The wooden Church of Matki Boskiej Śnieżnej combines a long building history with notable furnishings; leisure activities and a small pond are the focus of the park. The surrounding landscape also helps orient visitors: Olszowa lies in the buffer zone of the “Góra Świętej Anny” Landscape Park and on the edge of a Natura 2000 site.
A wooden church with a history and notable furnishings
The Church of Matki Boskiej Śnieżnej dates from 1679 and was remodeled in 1748. It is located at Wiejska 2 in Olszowa. The Baroque-influenced building is constructed using log construction; the tower is timber-framed, and the foundations are made of stone and brick. Two perspectives help put it in context: its construction using different materials and building methods, and the imagery of its furnishings. The Baroque high altar features a contemporary painting of the Adoration of Our Lady of the Snows. The Baroque side altars combine 18th-century and contemporary paintings. The Neoclassical pulpit depicts the four Evangelists and features a folk-style sculpture of the grieving Christ.
Outdoor activities and historic buildings in the park
The Sacred Miniature Park in Olszowa has outdoor attractions for children. The rope park includes tree houses, rope obstacles, swings, a slide and two ziplines. The shorter zipline is intended for younger children, while the longer one is for older children aged 3 to 13. Other outdoor activities include floorball, ball mazes, bowling, funhouse mirrors and a pontoon slide. Pedal boats can be rented and boat rides taken on a small pond. Check with the operator before your visit to confirm which activities are available. The complex also includes buildings from a horse stud founded by Count Renard. The buildings were constructed around the turn of the 20th century. The complex therefore combines leisure attractions with historic stud buildings.
Cycling routes with different waypoints
The yellow-marked cycling route 16 passes through Olszowa and by the wooden church. The red-marked route 172 runs along side roads through Wiśni Jar and past Wapiennik; at the church, it rejoins route 16. The second route therefore has additional waypoints, while the church is a shared point of reference for both routes. The municipal route descriptions date from 2011. Before setting out, check the current markings and trail conditions.
A route description published in 2021 also mentions an alternative mountain biking route from Olszowa to Leśnica: it is 16 km long and can also be ridden on touring and leisure bikes. A separate 11.9 km alternative is described as rough and intended for off-road cycling. The comparison therefore takes into account both route length and stated use: the first route is also suitable for touring and leisure bikes, while the second is described as a rough off-road option.
