Four statues of saints on the Renaissance bridge, events in the castle courtyard and attractions in nearby Lipno give Niemodlin a variety of travel highlights. Alongside the castle’s history, the surrounding area offers a garden, an outdoor swimming pool and the “Wokół Niemodlina” cycling route project. When looking for accommodation, it helps to first decide on your main focus: culture at the castle, attractions in Lipno or a combination of both.
Niemodlin Castle: Bridge and Events
The Renaissance bridge at Niemodlin Castle features four statues of saints: Anthony, Florian, Wendelin and John of Nepomuk. Their names make the statues a specific detail of the structure and give the bridge a religious connection. For those interested in culture, events in the castle courtyard add another dimension to this architectural highlight.
The castle courtyard in Niemodlin hosts knight demonstrations, handicraft workshops and culinary events. These include the Etnofestiwal, the “Czas na rybę” cooking competition and the Wojewódzkie Święto Karpia. The events offer a range of experiences—from demonstrations and craft workshops to culinary events. If you want to plan your trip around a particular event, check its date in advance.
Lipno: Garden and Outdoor Swimming Pool
The Lipno Dendrological Garden is located near Niemodlin. Jan Nepomucen Karol Praschma, owner of the Niemodlin estates, established it around 1783. The garden is part of the Lipno Nature and Landscape Complex and covers 4.18 hectares. Its approximate date places its origins in the late 18th century and connects the garden with the history of the Niemodlin estates.
The Lipno outdoor swimming pool is also located nearby and is operated by the Niemodlin Sports and Recreation Centre. It has a swimming pool, a leisure pool and a children’s pool. Other facilities include a playground, a beach volleyball court, a mini football pitch, table tennis tables and a high ropes course. A scenic avenue lined with old linden trees leads to the pool. Check the pool’s current operating status before your visit.
The facility also has a sporting history that can be dated: the outdoor pool was built in 1935 as an Olympic training centre, and swimmers training for the 1936 Olympic Games in Berlin practised there. Its former use as a training facility adds a historical aspect to the description of the pools and leisure areas.
Cycling and the Regional Landscape
The “Wokół Niemodlina” cycling route project includes maps and short descriptions of places. A map guide was published in four language versions—Polish, Czech, German and English—as well as a bilingual Polish-Czech map brochure. The brochure contains short descriptions of particularly interesting places. The two publications therefore differ both in format and in the languages they offer.
The wider travel area includes the Bory Niemodlińskie forest. It lies within the triangle formed by the Oder, the Nysa Kłodzka and the Biała with the Osobłoga. There is a dense network of ponds, particularly in the municipalities of Niemodlin and Tułowice. Sangów is the largest pond in the Opole Voivodeship. This wider landscape context complements the specific features of the town and nearby Lipno without equating them with the entire region.
Choose Accommodation Based on Your Travel Plans
If you are planning to travel for an event, check its date; if you are visiting the outdoor swimming pool, its current operating status is relevant to your plans. Then compare hotels for the dates that suit your trip.
