Historic buildings, sports facilities and the Prosna offer different reasons to stay in Gorzów Śląski. In the town itself, churches, a manor house and the buildings around the market square reflect its architecture and history. Leisure activities range from skatepark and play areas to seasonal canoeing in the municipality. For planning, it is especially helpful to distinguish between sights in the town and activities that extend across the municipality as a whole.
Churches and Historic Buildings
The Roman Catholic Church of the Holy Trinity (Kościół pw. Trójcy Świętej) is Neo-Gothic and built on a cruciform plan. Its tall tower rises above Gorzów Śląski, making the church a striking feature of the townscape. The bell of St John the Baptist, dating from 1711, hangs in the bell tower or on the church grounds. The plan, tower and bell each offer a distinct perspective on the building and its features.
The Evangelical Church of the Holy Cross (Krzyża Jezusowego) is also Neo-Gothic. It dates from the beginning of the second half of the 19th century. The two churches thus share an architectural style; the Roman Catholic church is further distinguished by its cruciform plan and its 1711 bell, while the Evangelical church is notable for its date.
The manor house at 1 Złota Street is a different type of building. It dates from 1725 to 1775, is Baroque and built of brick. The building is listed in both the register of monuments and the monument inventory. The buildings around the market square are also of historic value. The churches, manor house and market square thus offer different ways to explore the town’s architecture.
Leisure and Recreation
The Zielona Sala Gimnastyczna leisure complex includes a skatepark located by the central PKS bus stop on ul. Chopina. The complex has a volleyball court, a small football pitch and a basketball court that serves as an ice rink in winter. The skatepark features elements such as rails, ramps and platforms. There is also a table tennis table nearby, as well as facilities for chess and draughts. The site brings together ball-game courts, skatepark features and other leisure options.
The sports complex built by the municipality includes an event and sports hall, Orlik sports pitches and a beach volleyball court. The event hall at ul. Byczyńska 13 has a permanent spectator stand with 300 seats. This figure gives a concrete idea of the hall’s facilities; the other components of the sports complex are pitches for various sports.
Railway History and the Prosna
The “Kredens” gallery hosts an exhibition about the “Jedzie pociąg z daleka…” project. It includes a large-scale replica of the Paulinka locomotive and photographs documenting the history of railway line 196. The replica and photographs pair a single locomotive motif with the history of the line. As exhibition content can change, check whether the exhibition is currently on display before visiting.
The Prosna flows along the edge of Gorzów Śląski and has long served as a natural boundary. Within the municipality, it is a relatively small tributary of the Warta and is suitable for fishing and, in spring and summer, canoeing. The seasonal distinction is relevant for planning: canoeing is associated with spring and summer, while fishing is also mentioned as an activity on the Prosna. The river’s location on the edge of town and the leisure activities available across the municipality thus offer different perspectives on the landscape around Gorzów Śląski.
