Zaborów lies on the southern edge of the Puszcza Kampinoska. Two historical themes give the place a distinct character: the architectural history of its church and the eclectic palace-and-park complex. Two routes also pass by the complex, each with different details to help you plan your journey. When choosing accommodation, you can therefore first decide whether your stay will focus on the town’s religious history, early 20th-century architecture, or one of the routes.

Church and religious history

The parish in Zaborów was established in 1465; the first wooden church dates from that time. A second wooden church was donated in 1661 by Zofia Kryska z Lubieńskich, the Crown Chancellor. It burned down in 1700. The church built in 1700 was demolished toward the end of the 18th century. The present-day church followed in 1791: it was built to a design by Hilary Szpilowski and funded by Karolina and Placyd Izbińscy. It was renovated in 1839 and 1905 and finally consecrated in 1909.

It helps to distinguish between the different kinds of dates: construction, renovation, and final consecration are separate events. The construction history of the present-day church should therefore not be conflated with that of its earlier predecessors. Mother Teresa is also part of Zaborów’s religious history. She prayed in the church in 1983 and founded a novitiate of her religious community in Zaborów. This extends the historical perspective beyond the sequence of buildings to a later religious connection.

Palace and routes

The eclectic palace in the complex was built in 1901–1903 to a design by Franciszek Lilpop and Karol Jankowski. In architecture, eclecticism means combining forms from different styles. The style designation complements the construction dates with an architectural classification; the two names identify the palace’s designers. By contrast, the church is marked by a longer sequence of construction phases. Visitors interested in architectural history can consider the church’s older development and the early 20th-century palace as two separate topics.

The palace-and-park complex is a clear reference point for planning a trip: it lies on the Dąbrowa Leśna–Kampinos route, listed as 48.9 km and 13 hours. It also lies on the Kampinoski Szlak Rowerowy. This cycling route runs between Laski, polana Opaleń, and Tułowice and is listed as 74.8 km long. The details answer different planning questions: the Dąbrowa Leśna–Kampinos route is given with both distance and duration, while the distance and named points along the Kampinoski Szlak Rowerowy help you understand its course. Comparing the routes by distance alone would overlook these differences. Check current route conditions before your trip.
