The cobbled Rynek in Pułtusk is 400 meters long and is considered Europe’s longest cobbled market square. Other highlights include the Collegiate Church of the Annunciation, several sites belonging to the Regional Museum, and hiking and cycling routes that start in the town. This offers a range of options for planning your visit: cultural heritage, routes on foot or by bike, and seasonal activities on the Narew.
Market Square and Cultural Heritage
At one end of the Rynek stands Dom Polonii, the former castle of the Bishops of Płock. The market square and the castle’s former role offer two distinct points of interest for a stay: the 400-meter-long cobbled square and the history of the former bishops’ castle.
The Collegiate Church of the Annunciation is also an important cultural site in Pułtusk. It is a monument of particular significance to Polish cultural heritage; the basilica has fifteen Baroque side altars. The church building and its interior furnishings thus add a distinct perspective on sacred architecture to the themes of the Rynek and the castle.
Museum and Seasonal Visits
The Regional Museum in Pułtusk includes the Town Hall Tower, the 18th-century Town Hall cellars, and the building at Rynek 36 as visitor sites. These places differ in their historical context: the Town Hall Tower and cellars are associated with the Town Hall, while the building at Rynek 36 is another museum site.
Another exhibition is housed in the former Jesuit storage cellars on Wzgórze Abrahama. From May to September, the exhibition is open on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays; admission is at 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. Tickets are available at the museum at Rynek 43. Since these visiting hours are seasonal, check the dates before you arrive.
Hiking and Cycling
Two different hiking routes are described. The Szlak Wielkiej Przygody runs through the Pułtusk Forest District and leads from Pułtusk via Popławy, the Wielgolas Nature Reserve, Obryte, and Sadykierz to Komorowo. The Szlak Borów Nadnarwiańskich starts in Pułtusk on Bartodziejska Street, runs to the edge of the forest, passes the Popławy Nature Reserve, and ends at the bus stop in Zatory. The route waypoints and endpoints make it easy to distinguish between the two hiking options.
One cycling route described here starts at the fountain in the market square. It follows Słowackiego Street toward the footbridge over the Narew. So, in addition to the two hiking routes, cycling route information is also available. Check the route conditions locally before setting out.
Seasonal Activities on the Narew
The operator of Hotel Zamek Pułtusk, Dom Polonii, lists gondola and catamaran trips on the Narew as a seasonal offering from May to October. For the same period, the operator also lists watercraft and equipment rentals, including pedal boats, kayaks, boats, and gondolas. It also mentions sightseeing and leisure trips on the river. Before your trip, check whether the activities you want are available on your dates.
When planning, you can distinguish between activities and seasons: the hiking and cycling descriptions provide specific starting points and routes, while trips and rentals on the Narew are available during the May-to-October period. This helps you plan the experiences you want for your stay in Pułtusk.
