Skrzeszew brings together local history and two routes that pass through the village. A wayside chapel was donated by the Kuska family in 1922; a local story tells of an oak cross washed ashore during the great flood of 1908. The 15 km Green Central Trail and the 32 km Pułtuska-Czarna cycling route also pass through Skrzeszew. This lets you treat cultural connections and route planning as different focuses for a visit.

Local history at two landmarks

In 1922, the Kuska family donated a wayside chapel at the intersection of Dolna and Kościelna streets in Skrzeszew. Another local history topic is the oak cross. According to tradition, it was washed ashore during the great flood of 1908; its origin was unknown. The cross was later taken to the church in Skrzeszew and placed there on the wall with a wooden plaque. The plaque bore the inscription “ŚWIADEK WIARY NASZYCH PRZODKÓW”. The Polish phrase means “Witness to the faith of our ancestors”.

The two stories have different emphases. The account of the oak cross begins with the 1908 flood and continues with its later journey to the church and the inscription. The chapel story centers on its donation by the Kuska family, the year 1922, and the street intersection. The dates mentioned are 14 years apart; this helps place them in time, while each tells a different story. In Skrzeszew, a dated donation of a wayside chapel thus meets an object of unknown origin.

Routes through Skrzeszew

The Green Central Trail (Szlak Zielony Centralny) is 15 km long and passes through Skrzeszew. The 32 km Pułtuska-Czarna cycling route also runs through the village. At 32 km, it is 17 km longer and slightly more than twice as long as the Green Central Trail. The routes also differ in how they are designated: the Green Central Trail is named as a trail, while Pułtuska-Czarna is explicitly a cycling route. When planning, you can therefore take into account both the distance and the type of route; for a cycling trip, its clear classification as a cycling route is an additional point of reference.

In the wider regional area, a 2025 tour guide describes the Pułtuska-Czarna as an easy route focused on scenery and nature, running along asphalt roads. According to the route description, it also passes through the Lasy Legionowskie and Lasy Serockie forests; their terrain is described as sandy. This description adds information about the route’s landscape in the wider area to its passage through Skrzeszew. Before setting out on a specific cycling trip, it is worth checking the current route conditions.

For your visit, you can first decide whether local history or route selection will be your main focus. The chapel and the oak cross lead to two different local stories; the routes’ lengths and cycling classification are separate points of reference. If you are considering the cycling route, you can also take its described focus on landscape and nature into account.
