Explore Legionowo through its culture, parks and two distinct routes. At the Muzeum Historyczne w Legionowie, local history meets archaeological finds; at Park Zdrowia, visitors can enjoy a free salt graduation tower, shady benches and paths among the trees. The “Legionowskie Parki” cycling route connects all the town’s parks, while the “Polski Walczącej” patriotic tourist trail passes memorial sites. To plan your stay, start by choosing whether exhibitions, time in the park or a themed route will be the main focus of your visit.

Local History and Archaeology

The permanent exhibition “Dzieje Legionowa 1877–1990” in the museum pavilion at 23 A. Mickiewicza Street features a total of 363 historical objects. Its title clearly defines the period covered: the focus is the history of Legionowo from 1877 to 1990. The exhibition offers a concrete introduction to the town’s history and is for visitors who want to discover Legionowo through its historical development.

The permanent exhibition “De Profundis… Archeologia ziem powiatu legionowskiego” offers a different perspective. It presents finds from the Muzeum Historyczne w Legionowie’s own excavations; unlike the exhibition on Legionowo’s history, it focuses on archaeological finds from the county.

The “Piaski” branch of the Muzeum Historyczne w Legionowie is located in the former officers’ casino. It has two exhibition rooms devoted to the history of the Legionowo garrison. This adds a distinct military history perspective to the town’s history and archaeology.

Parks and Paths

Park Zdrowia is a local highlight for spending time outdoors. Since June 2015, it has had a free salt graduation tower, the first of its kind and the second in Masovia. The park also has shady benches, paths among the trees and an outdoor gym. The salt graduation tower is not the park’s only feature: its seating, tree-lined paths and exercise facilities are also part of what it offers.

The “Legionowskie Parki” cycling route connects all the parks in Legionowo. Its focus differs from that of a single park: the route links the town’s parks, while the salt graduation tower, benches and paths among the trees are specific features of Park Zdrowia. The “Polski Walczącej” patriotic tourist trail focuses on history. It comprises three sections and passes 28 memorial sites in Legionowo. Visitors can choose between a cycling route through the parks and a trail leading to memorial sites.

In the Wider Legionowski Destination

Legionowski County lies in the Warsaw Basin, in the central part of the Masovian Lowland, mostly between the Vistula and Narew rivers. A significant part of the county is within the Warszawski Obszar Chronionego Krajobrazu. The Wąwóz Szaniawskiego nature reserve protects natural forests on the steep slope of the Narew; Wieliszewskie Łęgi was established to preserve diverse natural plant communities with numerous orchid species. The regional landscape therefore encompasses both river landscapes and the preservation of distinctive plant communities.

Lake Zegrze is also part of the wider Legionowski destination. The reservoir was created in 1963 by damming the lower Narew at Dębe. It is used for sailing, and sailing schools have operated there for many years. The county-wide Szlak Polski Walczącej offers opportunities for hiking and cycling along almost 150 kilometres of trails. The local patriotic tourist trail in Legionowo, with its three sections and 28 memorial sites, is presented as a complement to the county-wide route.
