Włodawa lies directly on the Bug River. The city brings together religious architectural history, the Trail of Three Cultures and a museum complex with opportunities to enjoy the water. This combination offers different ways to explore: you can discover churches and architecture, visit exhibitions or get to know the Włodawka as part of a kayaking trip.

Orthodox church, cultural trail and city architecture

The Orthodox Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary was built as a Uniate church in 1840–1842 and has been Orthodox since 1875. It preserves icons and fragments of iconostases from churches destroyed during the interwar period. In Włodawa, the Trail of Three Cultures leads to this church; St. Louis Church and the Pauline monastery are also stops along the route. Włodawa’s cultural heritage can therefore be explored through several different sites, not just a single building.

The Czworobok offers a different architectural highlight: this late Baroque building dates from the 18th century and has a square floor plan, an inner courtyard and two entrance gates. Here, you can focus on its layout and form. St. Louis Church has a Rococo interior. Together, these buildings illustrate different aspects of Włodawa’s architectural history.

Exhibitions, festival and remembrance

The Museum and Synagogue Complex in Włodawa presents permanent and temporary exhibitions in its historic buildings. Its approach to history differs from the architectural details of the Czworobok or the churches: here, the focus is on exhibitions housed in a complex of historic buildings. Sobibór is also home to the Sobibór Museum and Memorial, an educational and memorial site and a branch of the State Museum at Majdanek.

The Festival of Three Cultures offers another way to explore Włodawa’s cultural life. It was established in 1995 and takes place annually in Włodawa. Its program includes workshops, author talks, film screenings, exhibitions, theatre performances and concerts. The formats on offer vary from year to year. The festival thus brings together several forms of expression, while the churches and historic buildings each reveal distinct cultural and architectural traces.

Water, walks and landscapes

The Włodawka also shapes the ways visitors can explore the area. The Nadbużańska Promenade runs along the river and is ideal for walks. At a kayak landing, paddlers can disembark on the Włodawka, visit the city and then continue along the Bug. A riverside walk and a stopover followed by a further journey on the river offer two different ways to explore.

For cyclists, the municipality of Włodawa is part of the eastern Green Velo cycling route. At almost 2,000 kilometres, it is Poland’s longest cycling route, placing the local section within the broader context of this long-distance route. The Sobibór Landscape Park offers a different perspective on the landscape. Rare species such as black storks, European pond turtles, lynxes and wolves live there. These animals add a distinctive natural dimension alongside the cultural sites and river routes.

Nearby is Lake Białe in Okuninka, 7 km from Włodawa. Visitors can rent pedal boats, kayaks and SUP boards there; inflatable water parks for children are also available. Rental options may vary seasonally, and the water parks are seasonal attractions whose availability may change. The lake offers further opportunities to enjoy the water, complementing walks along the Włodawka and the kayak landing in Włodawa, while remaining a separate destination.
