The Trzebnica Cycling Loop runs through all the municipalities of Trzebnica County. It gives cycling a regional framework: instead of focusing on a single place, you can discover the municipalities as part of a larger landscape.
The Trzebnica Hills, forests and the Barycz Valley
The Trzebnica Hills are among the particularly appealing places in the county. The northern lowland areas, which extend into the broad, flat Barycz Valley, offer a different geographical feature. Together with numerous cycling routes and forests, the valley is one of the county’s highlighted natural areas and visitor destinations. The hills and flat lowlands give the landscape different contours.
The forests also shape the natural environment: they offer an exceptional variety of flora and fauna, as well as opportunities to relax amid the landscape. Those who prefer to explore on foot will find designated hiking routes described as safe and appealing. Check the conditions of each route before setting out.
Cycling and hiking in the county
There are 30 cycling routes in the county. The number may change as routes are developed, so check the current selection and route conditions before setting out. The loop runs through all the municipalities, while the hiking trails offer another way to experience the landscape on foot. This lets you choose between cycling and hiking based on your interests, without requiring a fixed itinerary.
Sanctuary, parkland and traces of history
In Trzebnica, the Basilica of St Hedwig combines religious significance with the history of the Silesian Piasts. It is considered the oldest sanctuary in Silesia and one of the major Piast necropolises. The International Sanctuary of St Hedwig of Silesia is also located on the European Cistercian Route. For travellers interested in religious architecture and pilgrimage routes, the two come together here.
Another place to explore is the palace and park complex in Bagno. The English-style park features a philosophers’ summerhouse, a wooden chapel and a stone grotto. The complex is open to tourists in everyday conditions, taking into account the site’s particular features; check access before your trip. The park also has an exploration activity called “From the History of the Monastery in Bagno”. Check its availability before visiting, too.
Another historical feature in Bagno is the archaeological site. It is considered a probable late-medieval defensive structure and was turned into a memorial to the landowner’s son in the 20th century. In Trzebnica’s Winna Góra Park, educational trails include an archaeological site, among other features. Check the current trail conditions on site.
Żmigród and the villages of Zawonia, Cielętniki and Tarnowiec also offer insight into the region’s history. The historic tower in Żmigród was built in the 14th century as part of the town’s defence system. The embankment in Zawonia, Cielętniki and Tarnowiec is a well-preserved remnant of hydraulic engineering works by the Cistercian nuns of Trzebnica, who owned these lands for almost 600 years.
Practical information before your visit
For Bagno, the municipality recommends taking a regional road from Oborniki ĹšlÄ…skie towards Skokowa. Rail travellers should get off at Osola station and continue to Bagno via Osolina. Check the information before your trip. In Trzebnica, the ponds have paved paths, designated parking spaces, illuminated footpaths, benches, an amphitheatre and graduation towers. These specific places and their different features can help you plan your exploration of the county.
