Castle history, archaeological traces through time and a harvest festival tradition described in 2014 give Pątnówek a range of distinct points of interest. If you are looking for a holiday apartment for your stay, you can plan your trip around these themes: architectural history and the park, changing prehistoric to medieval archaeological contexts, or village festival culture. These themes offer different historical perspectives on the place and help you decide what to focus on when planning your trip.

Castle History and Park

At house number 38, a castle stands within a castle, park and manor complex. The building dates from the 1860s to the 1870s and was remodelled around the turn of the 20th century. The castle is listed in the register of monuments under number A/3212/720/L; the entry is dated 26 June 1986. The construction period, remodelling and register entry refer to different historical points and should not be confused. The complex also includes a park in its eastern part, dating from the 19th to the 20th century. A listed Baroque sculpture of Saint John of Nepomuk on plot 254/3 adds a religious art theme to Pątnówek’s cultural history.

Archaeological Traces Through Time

The archaeological sites span different periods. Site Pątnówek 1/29/76-20 includes a prehistoric settlement and another settlement whose date has not been determined. Pątnówek 1/27/77-20 has settlement traces from prehistory, the Late La Tène period, the Early Middle Ages, and the 13th and 14th centuries. Site Pątnówek 2/28/77-20 includes a settlement dating from the 14th to the 16th century, a skeletal cemetery from the Early Migration Period, and a cremation cemetery dating from the Bronze Age to the Hallstatt period. Pątnówek 6/34/76-20 has settlement traces from prehistory, as well as settlements from the Hallstatt period, the Roman Imperial period and the Early Middle Ages.

Taken together, the chronological span runs from prehistory to the 16th century. The sites include settlements and settlement traces, as well as two different types of cemetery. The castle’s history centres on a construction period followed by later remodelling, while the archaeological sites span several periods and types of evidence. These are two distinct ways of exploring the history of the place: the development of a building and the variety of settlement and cemetery traces.

Harvest Festival and Community Context

More recent village history offers another point of interest. In 2014, an outdoor leisure area was built in Pątnówek as part of a village development programme. The tradition described in 2014 combined an annual harvest festival with the weaving of a harvest wreath. Local festival fare included potato dishes and cakes; cakes won competitions at a community fair or harvest festival and were sold there. Community festivities and food thus complement the themes of architectural history and archaeology.

The municipality of Miłkowice lies on the Legnica Plain between Legnica and Chojnów. At the municipal level, ten medieval stone penitential crosses have been preserved along the Miłkowice–Legnica route. This adds a distinct historical point of reference at the municipal level to the picture of Pątnówek.
