Jordanów offers a clear reason to shape your stay around outdoor activity, architecture and remembrance: three marked PTTK hiking trails intersect in the town, while buildings around the market square, a gallery, memorial stones and a wayside chapel offer different cultural perspectives. For planning purposes, the key is not a fixed itinerary, but deciding which of these themes you would like to focus on.

Hiking as a focus in its own right

Three marked PTTK hiking trails intersect in Jordanów. This meeting point makes the town a specific reference point if you want to include PTTK trails in your stay. If you are planning a day of hiking, it is worth checking the route and its current condition in advance. This keeps hiking as a distinct focus alongside the cultural sites: on a hike, you choose a route; to explore the town’s history, you focus on individual places and how they relate to one another.

Neo-Gothic ensemble around the market square

Around the market square, three notable brick buildings, together with the nearby parish church, form an ensemble of Neo-Gothic urban architecture. It dates from the late 19th to the early 20th century. The term Neo-Gothic describes the ensemble’s overall style; it refers to the group, not just to individual brick facades. This lets you view the architectural context as a whole, rather than focusing on a single building.

The Stara Chałupa Gallery

Stara Chałupa shifts the cultural focus from urban architecture to everyday objects and works of art. At 32 Gen. Maczka Street, the gallery of Renata and Stanisław Starzec is housed in a building more than 100 years old. The collection includes old equipment, furniture and tools, including the complete contents of a saddler’s workshop. It also features sculptures by Stanisław Starzec in his own style and paintings by Renata Starzec. These offer two different scales to consider: an urban ensemble around the market square and a collection in a single house. If you are planning a visit, check the current access arrangements beforehand.

Memorial sites and historical context

On Piłsudskiego Street, a memorial stone marks the site of the former house where Blessed Father Piotr Dańkowski was born. He was one of the martyrs of the Second World War. At Na Zakrętach, another memorial stone stands near the place where Germans shot about 70 Jews on 28 August 1942. The two stones refer to different historical contexts: Dańkowski’s birth and the murder of the Jewish victims.

A wayside chapel on Gen. Maczka Street contains a Pietà figure dating from 1833. Unlike the two memorial stones, this refers to a single religious artwork and the year it was created. Together, the memorial sites and chapel offer a different way to explore Jordanów’s history than the Neo-Gothic ensemble or the Stara Chałupa collection.
