Proszowice combines a well-preserved medieval town layout with a Jewish cemetery, a parish church with a precisely dated main altar, and green spaces with distinct characteristics. This offers several concrete ways to explore the area: urban history and remembrance, art history, and river meadows and landscaped parkland. Activities also vary in scale—from a section of cycle route through the municipality to a Nordic walking trail about five kilometres long.
Urban History and Remembrance
The historic urban complex of Proszowice is a well-preserved example of a medieval town layout. This draws attention not just to a single building, but to the structure of the town as a whole. It provides a broad framework for cultural history, to which individual works of art and memorial sites add specific historical details.
The Jewish cemetery in Proszowice was established at the end of the 18th century or in the first half of the 19th century. On 29 August 2023, a memorial plaque was unveiled there as part of a commemorative ceremony. Thus, an older history and a precisely dated commemorative event meet at the same site.
At the parish church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary and St John the Baptist, the main altar is a specific art-historical reference: it dates from 1634 and was created by the Kraków sculptor Mikołaj Przybysławczyk. Alongside the medieval townscape, the work opens up another period in local history.
The historical references therefore operate on different levels: the town layout points to a medieval structure, the altar to a single work from 1634, and the cemetery and memorial plaque link the older site with the 2023 commemoration.
Green Spaces with Distinct Characteristics
The town park in Proszowice was established in the 1920s. It lies north of the town in the river meadows and covers about four hectares between the Szreniawa and its left-bank tributary.
The former manor park in Bobin offers a different emphasis: it has preserved its clearly recognizable compositional layout and its dendrologically valuable tree population. By comparison, the town park stands out for its riverside setting and approximate area, while Bobin is notable for its preserved design and trees. This makes it easier to choose an outdoor focus, depending on whether you are more interested in a riverside location and open space or in park design and trees.
Cycling, Nordic Walking and Cultural Events
A 14-kilometre section of EuroVelo 11 (EV11/VeloNatura) runs through the Proszowice municipality and was completed in 2023. In Proszowice, a Nordic walking trail about five kilometres long was also opened on 31 May as part of a Nordic walking event. The details differ in activity, length and geographical scope: the cycle route section is located at municipal level, while the shorter Nordic walking trail is in Proszowice. If you are planning to use this walking trail, check in advance whether it is currently open.
Harvest festivals are held annually in Kościelec. In 2023, the Centre for Culture and Recreation in Proszowice offered regular classes, organized cultural events and placed particular emphasis on artistic activities for children and young people. If you are planning a trip around a specific event, check the dates in advance.
