The manor park, church, and two chapels introduce different aspects of Raba Wyżna’s local history. The park represents landscape design and tree cover, while the church is associated with a precisely dated event and local veneration of an image. There is also an important planning restriction at the burial chapel of the Zduniów and Bzowskich families: it can only be viewed from the outside.

Manor Park and Tree Cover

The naturalistic landscape park was laid out in the early 20th century with walking paths and flower beds. The character of the grounds is defined by both landscaped paths and beds, and their tree cover. Small-leaved lime, ash, and oak trees predominate; hornbeams, Douglas firs, Austrian pines, European beeches, and a weeping ash form are also present. The trees are about 100 years old. The manor and park complex is entered in the heritage register of the Małopolskie Voivodeship.

The park and the burial chapel offer two different perspectives: the park highlights landscape design and tree species, while the chapel draws attention to the design of its entrance and its history as a burial place. You can weigh your interest in the parkland against that in sacred architecture without conflating the two sites into a single historic building.

Church and Religious History

The church in Raba Wyżna was consecrated on October 14, 1668, by Mikołaj Oborski, auxiliary bishop of Kraków. An 18th-century image of Matka Boża Rabiańska was the focus of local veneration. The consecration and veneration of the image mark different aspects of the town’s sacred history: a precisely dated event and the veneration of a specific image.

Burial Chapels and Visiting

The oldest burial in the burial chapel of the Zduniów and Bzowskich families dates to 1866. Its entrance portico is supported by two columns. Wrought Art Nouveau elements, a decorative grille on the door, and a stair railing complement the entrance; the column capitals are also decorated. Capitals form the upper part of a column. The burial chapel is listed as a cultural asset in the heritage register of the Małopolskie Voivodeship.

The burial chapel can only be viewed from the outside and visiting is subject to the cemetery’s opening hours. The stated hours are daily from April to September, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., and from October to March, from 8 a.m. until dusk. As these hours may change, check them locally before your visit.

The Chapel of the Third Fall of Christ in Raba Wyżna is also listed in the heritage register of the Małopolskie Voivodeship. It adds another named sacred site to the two other cultural themes.

The dates refer to different events and places: 1668 to the church’s consecration, the 18th century to the venerated image, 1866 to the oldest burial in the burial chapel, and the early 20th century to the creation of the park. This timeline helps distinguish the information rather than read it as the construction history of a single complex.
