Krzyszkowice offers specific points of interest for a trip focused on local history: the manor and park complex, chapels and cemetery are central to getting to know the area. These places bring together traces from different periods, from the 19th century to the present-day manor house. In the wider destination of Myślenice, longer hiking routes and distinct cultural and landscape themes offer more to explore. When planning, the details relating to Krzyszkowice can be clearly distinguished from the attractions in Myślenice.
Manor Complex, Park and Ponds
The manor and park complex is located in the central part of Krzyszkowice, a few hundred metres west of St. Anne’s parish church. The complex’s present-day manor house was built around 2013. A description prepared in June 2020 noted that three ponds east of the complex had once again become clearly visible; it also described the park gradually taking on the form shown on historical maps. Both the manor house’s architectural development and the park’s described layout are therefore among the place’s distinct traces of different periods.
Chapels and Cemetery in Krzyszkowice
At the entrance to the park stands a wooden chapel of St. John of Nepomuk on a masonry base. A second, stone chapel is dedicated to St. Florian; Andrzej and Katarzyna Salowie founded it in 1883. The cemetery by St. Anne’s Church was established and consecrated in 1886. It is the burial place of Professor Władysław Wicher, a priest. In January 1937, the remains of Augusta de Montléart were transferred to the local cemetery in Krzyszkowice. These dates place the sites in their historical context without conflating the different buildings, graves and events.
Hiking Routes in the Wider Destination of Myślenice
Three routes in Myślenice are described with distances and durations for longer hikes. The red hiking trail from Myślenice via Działek, Kudłacze and Łysina to Jaworzyce is 15.5 kilometres long and takes six hours. The yellow trail leads via Dalin and Pisania to Sułkowice; its 13.5-kilometre distance is listed as taking three hours and 45 minutes. Another red route runs via Sularzówka, Trzebuńska Góra, Babica, Bieńkowska Góra and Końcówka to Palcza. It is 20.5 kilometres long and takes five hours and 45 minutes in one direction. The direction matters when comparing these durations: the time given for the route to Palcza is explicitly for one direction.
Culture and Landscape in Myślenice
The cultural history of the wider destination of Myślenice also spans different periods. Its historic urban layout is a valuable monument at both regional and national level, and an example of medieval town planning. It includes surviving traces of a settlement that existed before the town was founded. The Church of the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Myślenice was built in the mid-15th century; its early Baroque chapel was added in 1642–1646. The sanctuary houses a miraculous image painted in Italy in the 16th century, which became the destination of numerous pilgrimages. The main feast day is September 8. In addition, from May to October, night-time Fatima devotions with vigils are held there on the 13th of each month. In this way, town history, architectural history, the image and recurring religious observances remain distinct cultural themes.
For a different perspective, the Raba riverside area in Myślenice’s Zarabie district was transformed into a well-equipped recreational park with numerous walking and cycling paths. A circular route around Myślenice leads to a lookout tower at the summit, a private astronomical observatory and the upper station of the ski lift, which has a restaurant currently in operation. In Myślenice County, the Małopolska Pope’s Trail runs along the Sułkowice–Myślenice section and along the county border via Luboń Wielki and Szczebel. These are independent ways to discover Myślenice through culture, walking or cycling; they should be distinguished from the historic places described in Krzyszkowice.
