A 120 m² mural and yellow Trail 2 offer two different ways to explore Złotoria: art in the village and a hike from Lubicz Dolny to the ruins of Kazimierz Wielki’s castle. Along the way are a historic wooden bridge and the Church of St. Adalbert. The village also offers local history at Plac Flisaka and a leisure park intended, among other things, as a place to meet. When planning your trip, you can weigh up whether you mainly want to hike, discover historical connections or combine different interests.

A hike between the bridge, church and castle ruins

Yellow Trail 2 is 7 km long and leads from Lubicz Dolny to the ruins of Kazimierz Wielki’s castle in Złotoria. It crosses the historic wooden bridge over the Drwęca and continues to the Church of St. Adalbert. From there, an unpaved path follows the river; after about 1,000 m, the route reaches the castle ruins. The 7 km refers to the entire route, while about 1,000 m is the described section from the church to the ruins. This makes it possible to consider the total distance separately from the final section. As trail conditions can change, check the current state of the route before setting out.

History and visual highlights

The castle ruins also provide a setting for a specific event in the village’s history. In May 1411, Jagiełło, his brother, the Grand Duke of Lithuania Vytautas, and Grand Master Heinrich von Plauen met near the ruins. They exchanged documents that had already been sealed, completing the signing of the First Peace of Thorn. The meeting connects the place with a diplomatic event and gives Złotoria’s history a clear point of reference in time.

Another local visual highlight is the mural, which covers an area of 120 m². Its size is a striking feature among the cultural landmarks mentioned here. While the 1411 history focuses on an event near the ruins, the mural puts artistic expression in Złotoria in the foreground. Visitors interested in culture can thus find different points of interest without reducing the village to its castle ruins.

Plac Flisaka: local history and river rafting

At the entrance to the village, an information board at Plac Flisaka provides information about Złotoria’s history. The square also has a carved bench shaped like a fish and seating for walkers and people using the cycle path. It therefore combines a point of reference for local history with places to sit for those travelling on foot or by bike.

Złotoria’s symbol at Plac Flisaka was ceremonially unveiled on 15 September 2013. The Flisak sculpture commemorates the centuries-old tradition of river rafting and the arduous work of the rafters. Together, the name of the square and the sculpture give this local tradition a tangible form: the focus is not only on the waterways, but also on the work involved in rafting.

Activity and meeting others

The family recreation and leisure park in Złotoria invites visitors to walk, play and be active, and also serves as a place to meet. Alongside the longer hike on the yellow trail, it offers a different kind of leisure: physical activity and playing together are among the options described, as are learning about local history and river rafting. You can decide which of these aspects matters most for your trip based on your interests.
