Runowo Krajeńskie offers two distinct ways to shape a stay: local history that can be traced through dated buildings and historical traces, and a 20-kilometre blue trail that passes through the town. When looking for a holiday apartment, you can first consider whether to focus on the church, palace history and historic places of remembrance, or whether you would also like to plan a hike.

Local History and Church Architecture

The name Runowo was first mentioned in a written document in 1325. This date belongs to the history of the name; the parish church was built much later, between 1606 and 1609, in the late Renaissance style and on the site of an earlier wooden church. Two building phases can therefore be distinguished at the church site: the older wooden building and the church erected later.

The parish church’s furnishings include paintings of its founders, F. and J. Orzelski. The interior furnishings are attributed to the early 17th and 18th centuries. The year of construction, architectural style and furnishings thus offer different perspectives on the same church, rather than reducing local history to a single date.

The other historical evidence also spans different periods. The organist’s house dates from the late 18th century. The remains of two Protestant cemeteries from the 19th and early 20th centuries have also been preserved. The organist’s house adds another dated building to the religious architecture, while the cemetery remains draw attention to historic places of remembrance. Visitors choosing cultural themes for their stay can thus distinguish between architectural history, furnishings and surviving traces.

Palace History and Landscape Park

Another highlight is Pałac Runowo. The palace is located in Runowo Krajeńskie within Krajeński Landscape Park. Countess Teofila z Działyńskich Szołdrska-Potulicka, known as the “White Lady,” was born in the palace. Two oaks and an ash tree in the park of the former palace and park complex are designated as monumental trees. Both the countess’s personal history and specific features of the park are therefore among the themes that distinguish Runowo Krajeńskie.

The palace was burned down by German troops in 1945 and was finally reduced to a ruin in the post-war years. A clock tower survives from the original building. The combination of biographical connections, a history of destruction and a surviving architectural feature gives the palace a different character from the church.

A Hike as a Separate Highlight

For those who would like to include some outdoor activity alongside local history, the Szlak im. Stanisława Łabędzińskiego offers a specific hiking route: it is marked in blue, is 20 kilometres long and passes through Runowo Krajeńskie. When planning your stay, you can therefore weigh up cultural and historical themes against a hike with a specified distance. The stated length gives you a concrete figure for planning; check the local trail markings before setting out.
