An elongated rectangle with a central market square defines the medieval town plan in the historic centre of Kamień Krajeński. Alongside this distinctive layout are the history of the collegiate church, walking and cycling routes, and the beach on Lake Mochel. These themes offer different focuses: you can combine local history with outdoor activities, while the lake provides another possible option.

Townscape and Church History

The market square lies at the centre of the elongated rectangle. This is more than a single sightseeing spot when considering the historic centre: the layout describes the form of the town as a whole. If you are interested in urban development, the combination of a rectangular layout and a central market square offers a tangible point of reference.

The parish church of Saints Peter and Paul brings together several clearly dated periods in local church history. In 1651, Archbishop Michał Łubieński founded a collegiate chapter in Kamień Krajeński, which existed until 1820. In 1964, Pope Paul VI elevated the parish church to a collegiate church and reinstated the chapter. The dates mark two separate periods: the chapter’s foundation and its later dissolution, followed by its reinstatement in 1964. This makes it possible to distinguish the different historical events chronologically.

The town walls and the parish church also have separate heritage register entries. The town walls have been listed under A/1286 since 17 June 1992; the parish church has been listed under A/772 since 15 February 1993. The two dates and numbers refer to different properties and provide a precise addition to the history of the townscape and church.

Walking Trails, Cycling Route, and Beach

The 10 km walking trail through the Kamionka Valley leads from Kamień Krajeński along forest paths to the ruins of the Witkowski Mill and back. This gives you both a specific destination and a return to your starting point for planning purposes. As a longer cycling option, the 42 km route around the Kamień Krajeński municipality starts and ends in the town. The two routes can be distinguished by activity and length: a 10 km walk to the mill and back, or a 42 km cycling trip around the municipality.

The blue-marked Janina-Kłopocka-Rodło Trail also passes through Kamień Krajeński. The municipality is also reported to have more than 80 km of well-marked walking and cycling routes. This total length, reported by the municipality in 2020, refers to the municipal area, not just the town. Check that the routes are currently available before planning your trip.

The beach on Lake Mochel is equipped with jetties and rescue equipment. This provides another focus alongside local history and walking and cycling routes.

Virtual Tour

The virtual tour of Kamień Krajeński described by the municipality in 2021 included 360-degree panoramas of the town, narrated contributions, descriptions of selected places, and a VR mode. Check whether the tour is available before using it.
