An English oak designated as a natural monument, a nature trail along the promenade and the Dom Polski in the town center give you several concrete points of interest for a stay in Zakrzewo. When planning your trip, you can choose between spending time outdoors and visiting cultural and commemorative sites. You can focus your visit according to whether you mainly want to walk and cycle or learn about architectural history, religious sites and Polish commemorative culture.

Promenade: Nature and Recreation

A nature trail along the promenade features information boards about local fauna and flora. The promenade is also suitable for leisurely walks and cycling trips. These offer different ways to spend time outdoors: the boards give a walk a nature focus, while the promenade is also suitable for a cycling trip. The natural monument “Józef” adds a specific tree to the mix: it is an English oak on the promenade.

The beach along the promenade is a waterside spot with sun loungers, green surroundings of grasses and trees, and walking paths. As these facilities and features may change, check their current condition before your visit.

Architectural History and Religious Sites

The historic Church of St. Mary Magdalene dates from the 19th century and was built from fieldstone between 1839 and 1841. The Chapel of Our Lady of Joy in Zakrzewo is a place of religious veneration. These two sites offer different points of interest alongside the town’s cultural commemorative sites.

The Dom Polski was built in the center of Zakrzewo between 1934 and 1935. It originally housed a Polish school, a kindergarten, a bank and a library, as well as the Great Rodło Hall, which had a stage. The church and the Dom Polski also differ in date: one is from the 19th century, while the other dates from 1934–1935. The Dom Polski is a cultural center where numerous events are organized. If you plan to attend a specific event, check its date in advance.

The Trail and Monuments

The Szlak Pięciu Prawd Polaków (Trail of the Five Truths of the Poles) commemorates important events in the history of Polish identity in the German territories. As a tourist attraction, it is intended for local residents and visitors from other regions. The trail consists of six large boulders: the first stands at the Monument to Polish Identity in the Złotów region, and the others are along the promenade by Lake Proboszczowskie.

The Monument to the Polish Defenders addresses a different theme. It stands in the center of Zakrzewo near the Church of St. Mary Magdalene and the Dom Polski. The monument commemorates the heroic deeds of Polish defenders who fought for their country’s freedom and independence. This helps distinguish the different themes of these commemorative sites: the trail and the history of Polish identity in the German territories on one hand, and the Polish defenders on the other.
