Jastrowie’s cycling and walking routes have different focuses: “Wokół Jastrowskich Jezior” runs along a wooden promenade and between lakes; the Jastrowie–Diabli Skok route begins in the town centre. There is also the municipal lido on Lake Duże and buildings with their own history. This gives you a specific choice to make when planning your trip: should your stay be shaped more by the routes, seasonal offerings by the water, or architecture and railway history?

Cycling and walking routes with different focuses

The “Wokół Jastrowskich Jezior” cycling and walking route was established in 2004 at the initiative of the Jastrowie Forest District to mark the 80th anniversary of the founding of the State Forests. This occasion places the route within the history of the State Forests. Its blue route follows a wooden promenade connecting the town beach with the “wild beach.” It then runs between the lakes to Jastrowie. The connection between the beaches and the sequence of lakes shape the route; its creation to mark the anniversary also gives it a historical context.

The Jastrowie–Diabli Skok cycling and walking route begins at Plac Jana Pawła II in the centre of Jastrowie. From there, it passes through the town park and continues along Roosevelta Street. In contrast to the “Wokół Jastrowskich Jezior” route, the focus here is on landmarks in the town centre; there, the promenade, beach connection and lakes shape the route. When weighing up the routes, the choice is between two different focuses: the town park and named street on one hand, and connections to the water and beaches on the other.

Architecture and railway history

The tower of the Church of Our Lady Queen of Poland is 46.3 metres high and is the highest point in the town. This measurement gives the church’s architecture a specific scale. It offers a different kind of landmark from the routes: the focus is on a single building with a clearly stated height. If you want to include cultural details in your stay, the tower is a distinctive reference point for the town’s architecture.

The steel lattice railway bridge over the Gwda offers another historical perspective. It has a lower parabolic girder and was commissioned on 10 September 1914, together with the 13.5-kilometre section of the Jastrowie–Węgierce railway line. The bridge structure and the railway section share the same commissioning date. In contrast to the cycling and walking route established in 2004, these represent two different periods: railway infrastructure from 1914 and the later route created to mark the State Forests’ anniversary. This comparison helps you associate the dates with their respective subjects.

Lido on Lake Duże

The municipal lido is on Lake Duże, which was formerly also called Miejskie or Leśne. These former names refer to the same lake and help explain the different names. During the season, the lido has a small shop, basic food services and a watercraft rental service. These offerings are seasonal and may vary. If you want to plan on using any of them, check in advance whether they will be open during your travel dates. Two things are therefore important for planning: Duże identifies the location of the lido, while the season determines when the listed offerings are open.
