A town hall with a floor plan measuring 13 Ă— 13 metres, an octagonal clock tower and a monastery built between 1739 and 1742: Rawicz County is home to historic sites with a wide variety of architectural details. Marked trails complement these discoveries with perspectives on nature and history.
Churches, Town Halls and Historic Sites
In Goruszki, the church and monastery date from 1739 to 1742. The single-nave Holy Cross Church has a basement throughout; its rooms include a lower church and a chapel of the Tomb of Saint Francis. The monastery’s cloister corridors contain paintings, several sculptures dating from the 15th to the 18th century, and coffin portraits. The building period, church interiors and works of art offer different ways to explore this site.
The town halls also have distinctive features. Rawicz Town Hall was built between 1753 and 1756. The original construction, made of massive oak beams, has been preserved in the corridors on the ground and upper floors. Jutrosin Town Hall was built in the 19th century on a square floor plan measuring 13 Ă— 13 metres; its clock tower is octagonal. These two buildings can be appreciated for their different forms and preserved details.
The palace and park complex in Stary Sielec was the seat of the Czartoryski princes. Nearby, in the Miejska Górka area, the “Koźlak” windmill dates from 1696. It is considered the oldest windmill of its kind in the area.
Hiking Trails with Different Themes
The yellow WK-3651-y hiking trail, designated as a forest trail, is 11.5 kilometres long and runs entirely within Rawicz County. Also entirely within the county, the 45-kilometre red “Szlak walk Powstańców Wielkopolskich o Rawicz” trail leads to places historically associated with the Greater Poland Uprising. This offers a choice between a shorter forest trail and a longer route with a historical theme.
In Rawicz, the green-marked hiking trail forms a loop of about eight kilometres. In Pakosław municipality, between Osiek and Pomocno, the six-kilometre “Cztery Pory Roku” nature education trail can be found. If you take this trail, check its actual route on site. Together with the red route, the lengths illustrate a considerable range: from the six-kilometre education trail to the roughly eight-kilometre loop, the 11.5-kilometre forest trail and the 45-kilometre historical route.
For cyclists, the international R-9 cycle route is another point of reference: it passes through the municipalities of Pakosław, Jutrosin and Miejska Górka in Rawicz County. On the outskirts of Miejska Górka is the sports and recreation complex beside the “Balaton” reservoir, surrounded by green spaces and next to a sports stadium. The reservoir is used for recreation and fishing.
