At Lake Lusowskie and in the Sama River valley, Lusowo reveals its scenic side; the church, palace and park complex, and museum add cultural and historical highlights. This lets you explore the area according to two different interests: protected lakeside landscape or the history of its buildings and collections.
Protected Landscape Area and Lake
The protected landscape area around Lusowo includes Lake Lusowskie and the Sama River valley. It also protects the woodland areas on the lake’s southern shore, as well as marshes with stands of saw-sedge (Cladium mariscus). The lake, river valley, woodland and marsh are distinct parts of the protected area. If you are choosing between nature and cultural attractions, the landscape is a clear focus in its own right, alongside the church, palace and park complex, and museum.
Church, Complex and Museum
The parish church of St. James and St. Jadwiga in Lusowo is a listed historic building dating from the 15th century. The church was remodeled between 1916 and 1918; the present-day Church of St. Jadwiga and St. James was consecrated on June 23, 1918. These dates mark two phases: the listed building dates back to the 15th century, while the remodeling and consecration mark its later history. If you are interested in church architecture, this distinction helps you tell the older historic building apart from the changes made in the early 20th century.
Another historical landmark is the palace and park complex in Lusowo. This listed monument dates from the mid-19th century and comprises a palace and a park. Unlike the parish church, the focus here is on an ensemble with two components; its mid-19th-century date provides a second reference point for the area’s history.
The Muzeum Powstańców Wielkopolskich im. Gen. Józefa Dowbora Muśnickiego complements the buildings with a collection. On display are original documents, maps and photographs, as well as flags, uniforms, military objects, models and other mementos. The collection brings together written and visual records with objects and models. If you want to plan your stay around more than buildings, the museum offers a distinct cultural and historical focus.
Swimming Area and Getting There
The Lusowo swimming area is on Lake Lusowskie and has a bar, toilets, changing rooms and a jetty. Water sports equipment is available for hire near the beach; there is also a volleyball court, a multi-purpose sports court and a children’s playground. The swimming area’s facilities and the amenities around the beach are separate places to visit during your time by the lake. Check the availability of the facilities and equipment rental before you visit.
