In the Schneidemühl travel destination, the Powiat pilski, you can explore the landscape from its rivers: the entire district lies within the Noteć catchment area. The Gwda crosses its western part and flows into the Noteć at Ujście. There are also museums, forest trails and waterways—a selection of options with different focuses for your stay.
Museums and Pilgrimage Traditions
The open-air museum in Osiek covers 13 hectares and contains 28 buildings. The oldest dates from the 18th century, the newest from the early 20th century. This span of time gives your visit a clear framework: you can compare different periods of construction within a single museum site. In Piła, the Muzeum Okręgowe offers a different focus. Its collections cover archaeology, ethnography, history and art. The permanent exhibition on furniture and domestic interiors spans the late 18th to the early 20th century.
Another cultural highlight is the Marian Sanctuary in Górka Klasztorna. It is considered Poland’s oldest Marian pilgrimage site; a Passion play is performed there every year. If you would like to see the play, check the dates before your trip. That way, you can plan your stay around the specific event rather than assuming that an annual performance will coincide with any travel date.
Forest Trails and Railway History
Two forest routes of different lengths are available for a cycling trip. The “Dębowa Góra” route near Osiek nad Notecią and Wyrzysk runs through the forests managed by the Kaczory Forest District. Its main yellow route is 9.2 kilometres long. The 20-kilometre “Smok” route combines nature and history: along the way are bunkers, trenches, war cemeteries and a national memorial site. Comparing the distances can help you choose, while the historical stops give “Smok” its distinctive character. Check trail conditions before setting out.
The Powiat pilski hiking trail network includes a 25-kilometre route from the “Kuźnik” Nature Reserve via Dobrzyca and Stara Łubianka to Wiesiółka. It offers a different kind of trip planning from the cycling routes: here, the route follows a set course with several named stops. A restored, 12-kilometre section is available for journeys on the Wyrzyska District Railway. Tourist services operate on this section; check operating arrangements before your trip. The narrow-gauge railway network in the Wyrzysk and Białośliwie area also has a long history: local landowners commissioned its construction in 1893.
Paddling Trips for Different Timeframes
A kayaking route on the Noteć runs from Osiek nad Notecią to Ujście and forms part of the Wielka Pętla Wielkopolski. The Rurzyca route is about 25 kilometres long and takes around two days of paddling. It passes through several lakes and a wooded valley; the final four kilometres of the Rurzyca lie within the Powiat pilski. The Łobżonka offers a longer itinerary: the river is navigable for 60 kilometres, a trip that takes two to three days. Around 50 kilometres of this stretch run through the Powiat pilski. These figures give a sense of the difference in time required for the river trips described, without treating their routes as equivalent.
When choosing accommodation and the length of your stay, you can therefore start by deciding on your preferred focus: museum collections, forest trails, railway history or a multi-day paddling trip each place different demands on the time available. The well-developed road network in the Powiat pilski makes it easier to reach historic buildings and places of scenic and natural interest.
