The Prosna flows through Grabów Nad Prosną and is a tourist attraction for people who enjoy canoeing and kayaking. At the same time, the parish church, the cemetery cross and the Izba Pamiątek give the town cultural and historical points of interest. If you are looking for a holiday apartment, start by asking what you would like to focus on: should your stay be shaped more by the river and kayaking, or by architecture and local history? Both themes give the destination its own character.

The Prosna and the Kayak Route

The organised kayak route starts at the Błonia in Grabów Nad Prosną. Confirm this starting point before your trip if you are planning around it. Professional kayaking trips on the Prosna are organised by the Grabowskie Towarzystwo Kajakowe in cooperation with the Grabowskie Centrum Organizacji Sportu i Rekreacji.

The approximately 25 km kayak route runs mostly through a landscape of fields and meadows, usually between rows of willows. The approximate length answers the question of distance; the landscape description covers a different aspect of the tour. This lets you take both the distance and the character of the landscape into account when planning your trip.

The Parish Church and Cemetery Cross

The parish church of the Immaculate Heart of the Blessed Virgin Mary and Saint Nicholas lies southeast of the market square. It is an example of a Baroque brick-built town church, constructed through ecclesiastical and magnate patronage. The Baroque classification describes its architectural style, while brick-built describes its construction; the patronage adds background on how it was built. Magnates were influential members of the nobility, meaning that the church had secular patrons as well as ecclesiastical ones.

In the churchyard of this parish church stands a cross by Paweł Bryliński, a renowned folk sculptor from Greater Poland, dating from the second half of the 19th century. This brings two distinct historical details into focus: the church’s Baroque architecture and a work of Greater Polish folk sculpture from a specific period. In addition to the church building, the cross adds a named artist and a regional connection to the town’s history.

An Anniversary as a Historical Point of Reference

The Izba Pamiątek also has a specific historical connection. It was established around 1966/1967 in connection with celebrations marking the 550th anniversary of Grabów Nad Prosną. Its founding occasion links the institution to the town anniversary and adds a local anniversary perspective to the cultural and historical picture. Together, the church building, sculpture and anniversary associated with the Izba Pamiątek represent different aspects of the town’s history.

Two different themes emerge when choosing your trip: the Prosna offers a specific kayak route and its surrounding landscape, while the church, cross and Izba Pamiątek provide cultural and historical points of interest. Consider whether the river and kayaking, or architecture, art and anniversary history, matter more to you during your stay.
