In Zatom Nowy, several cycling and hiking routes pass through the village or begin here. Their courses connect different directions and destinations: from the route along the Warta to a cycling route through the pine forests of the Puszcza Notecka. Lakes and traces of local history also shape the area. When planning a trip, the route itself and its particular focus are therefore especially worth considering.
Cycling Routes and Hiking Trail through Zatom Nowy
The village development plan for 2015–2020 describes the western blue section of the Nadwarciański Szlak Rowerowy. In Zatom Nowy, it runs from east to west along Voivodeship Road 198. Farther west, the route follows the north bank of the Warta towards Międzychód. In the opposite direction, it runs to Sieraków and from there onwards to Poznań and the Jeziorsko Reservoir. The route of the Nadwarciański Szlak from Międzychód to Poznań also passes through Zatom Nowy.
A black connecting route is listed as 7.1 km long. It runs from Chorzępowo via Zatom Nowy and the Warta ferry to Zatom Stary and Ławica. Another route is the red PTTK hiking trail: the course described in the village development plan for 2015–2020 runs from Sieraków via the Warta ferry and Kukułka towards Chojno and Mokrze; its endpoint is listed as 65.1 km. The trail markers and places named help distinguish these routes without combining them into a single tour.
The “Do Kopalni Wanda” cycling route begins in Zatom Nowy and heads north through the pine forests of the Puszcza Notecka. It runs along Lake Barlin to the remains of a lignite mine shaft dating from the interwar period. The route described in the 2015–2020 village development plan thus connects forest and lake scenery with a specific historical destination.
Lakes and Traces in the Forest
Lake Barlin lies about 1 km north of Zatom Nowy in the forests of the Puszcza Notecka. This large ribbon lake covers 103 ha, is about 3.2 km long and 0.7 km wide, and is around 3 m deep. Lake Piaskowe lies about 2 km northwest of the village. It covers 14 ha, is about 5.8 m deep, and is considered to have good swimming conditions. The two lakes thus differ both in size and in their described role: swimming conditions are highlighted for Lake Piaskowe, while the information about Lake Barlin describes its dimensions and location in the forest.
There is also a trace of the landscape within the village: four spreading pine trees are considered remnants of the old forest. They offer a different connection to the former landscape than the forest section followed by the “Do Kopalni Wanda” cycling route.
Insights into Local History
In the eastern part of Zatom Nowy, on Voivodeship Road 198, are the restored and enclosed remains of a Protestant cemetery. It is associated with German colonists who lived in the area before the First World War. Its location along the road and its historical connection give this part of the village a distinct focus alongside the routes and scenic destinations.
The Warta ferry crossing between Zatom Nowy and Zatom Stary is assigned to Voivodeship Road 195. If your plans include a crossing, check the current timetable beforehand. This helps distinguish route sections that use the ferry from trails whose described course does not include this crossing.
