The manor farm complex in Żelazków brings together a manor house, landscape park and entrance gate; its spatial axis runs through all three. Farm buildings and former manor houses complement the ensemble with their former residential and working functions. This makes Żelazków a clear focal point for travellers wishing to combine architectural and park history in a single stay.

Manor House and Manor Farm in Several Building Phases

The manor farm complex was built in the second half of the 18th century for the Radoliński family, its owners at the time. The manor house was partly remodelled between 1796 and 1798 to designs by Warsaw architect Fryderyk Albert Lessel. It is a single-storey building with a mansard storey. The complex's entrance gate was built in 1891 and later rebuilt after sustaining severe damage. The spatial axis runs through the park, manor house and gate. This creates a clear sequence of landscape, residence and entrance, while the building history spans several periods.

For travellers interested in cultural history, the added value lies in considering how the different elements relate to one another: the main axis organises the central features, while the farm buildings and former manor houses reveal other aspects of the estate. This makes it possible to distinguish the complex by architectural form, landscape and former functions.

Landscape Park with Avenues and Pond

The landscape park covers more than 1.5 hectares. It is a remnant of a formal 18th-century park, remodelled in the 19th century. Two chestnut avenues define its symmetry, running in a V shape from the manor house. A small pond lies between the avenues. The park thus combines a formal historic layout with later alterations and a clearly defined arrangement of avenues.

In terms of the different themes, the park differs from the manor house: the focus there is on remodelling and architectural form, while here it is on the development of the grounds and the geometric layout of the avenues. This distinction can help you decide whether to focus your stay more on architecture or garden history.

Farm Buildings and Former Manor Houses

The farm buildings also offer insight into the complex's former functions. A two-storey brick building dating from the first half of the 19th century once served as a mill and the estate's electricity plant. These uses connect the history of the manor farm with production and technical infrastructure.

Three former manor houses have been preserved north of the farmyards: one at the edge of the complex and two at a road junction. Their locations add further spatial traces of the former estate to the main axis of park, manor house and gate. Alongside the central layout of the buildings and park, former residential and working areas also come into view.

Culture and Regional Themes

The Gminny Ośrodek Kultury in Żelazków organises several events, some of which take place regularly, and offers cultural and artistic activities to local residents. If an event date is important for your trip, check the current programme in advance.

Near Żelazków, the Kaliska Kolej Dojazdowa received four information boards as part of a project to promote historic heritage. They covered railway operations and tourist attractions near the station in Żelazków, as well as the stations in Petryki, Złotniki and Zbiersk. The project was supported by funding from 2021. This extends the historical perspective beyond the manor farm to regional railway history and how it is presented to tourists.
