The municipality of Bulalacao is home to islands, beaches, and destinations for activities on land and in the water. Its natural landscapes vary: Aslom Islet has a crescent-shaped white sandbar about 500 meters long; Buyayao Island is associated with a forest reserve and marine life. A lagoon, viewpoint, and waterfall offer a range of other attractions.

Islands, Coastlines, and Views

Buyayao Island is a 206-hectare forest reserve with diverse vegetation and more than 500 forest species. Wildlife, coral, and diverse marine life are also part of the island’s natural landscape. Buyayao is suitable for snorkeling and diving, bringing together two interests—forest and underwater exploration—in one place.

Silad Island offers a different coastal landscape: its sand is yellowish and rich in coral, with coconut palms on the hill in the background. Target Island covers five hectares and has a white sand beach with a lagoon in the middle. The lagoon is believed to have been formed by bombings. In comparison, Aslom is known for its curved sandbar, Silad for its yellowish coral-rich sand, and Target for its beach and central lagoon.

Abintang, a viewpoint on the slopes of Bulalacao, offers panoramic views of Buyayao Island, Suguicay Island, and Semirara Island in Antique. The viewpoint complements the individual coastal landscapes with views of several islands.

Activities on the Water and on Land

Balatasan Long Beach is a long stretch of white sand with clear water suitable for swimming and water activities. Those looking for different types of activities can go snorkeling and diving on Buyayao Island, while the Pocanil Rock Formation offers rappelling, climbing, and caving. The options range from the beach to underwater and rock activities.

Routes, Journeys, and Stays

The trail to Bagong Sikat Falls passes through rice fields, wooded terrain, and several streams. The hike takes about 45 minutes to one hour, though this can vary. Another travel time applies to the boat ride from Bangkal Staging Point in Barangay San Juan to Suguicay Island: it takes 15 to 20 minutes. Confirm this time range before planning your trip. The two times are not directly comparable: one is for a walk through varied terrain, while the other is for a boat ride.

Pocanil Beach Resort serves as a starting point for the trip to Buyayao Island.

The Biniray Festival in Bulalacao honors the patron saints Peter and Paul and is a thanksgiving celebration for the gifts of the sea.

Tambaron is considered the most developed island among the islands and islets of Bulalacao; this comparative assessment may change over time. Visitors can rent cabanas and fan rooms on Tambaron Island for an overnight stay. Confirm the availability of your preferred accommodation before traveling.
