High limestone cliffs, hidden lagoons and turquoise waters define El Nido.
Limestone Landscapes and Activities
El Nido’s landscape combines high limestone cliffs with hidden lagoons and turquoise waters. Kayaking through secret lagoons puts the focus on being active on the water, while the unspoiled beaches are all about relaxation. This brings together two distinct aspects of the natural setting: actively exploring the lagoons and spending quiet time at the beach. When weighing up the two, consider whether kayaking or relaxing on the beach is more important for your stay. This distinction gives your planning a clear focus: activity on the water or relaxation on land.
Tour Names with Historical Context
A 2021 publication by the municipal government describes how the former Tours A, B, C and D were reorganized under the name “Seven (7) Wonders of El Nido”: three premium tours—Small Lagoon Premium, Big Lagoon Premium and Matinloc Island Premium—and four regular island-hopping tours: Tapiutan Strait, Cave Exploration, History Islands and Cadlao Strait. The letters A to D are the former designations, while the publication lists seven named tour categories. This distinction helps you tell the older names apart from those used in the publication. If a particular tour is important to your plans, check its current name and availability in advance.
Mabini: Beach and Local History
Barriong Lagi Beach is located in Barangay Mabini, within the municipality of El Nido. It is a recreation spot for the local community and is also visited by residents of neighboring barangays. From the beach, you can see Shark Fin Bay, with Imorigue Island in the background. The view provides the landscape context, while the beach’s communal use adds a social perspective.
The Canovas Ruins in Mabini also represent a historical aspect of the municipality. At a Cultural Mapping Workshop, they were selected as a symbol of Mabini because of their historical significance and as the first sawmill in Palawan Province. The sawmill connection offers a different focus from the water activities: the emphasis is on local history and the ruins’ role as a symbol of Mabini. When weighing nature and cultural themes, the lagoons and beaches represent the landscape, while the Canovas Ruins represent Mabini’s history. A sawmill is a facility for processing wood into boards and other wood products. The reference to the first sawmill in Palawan Province makes the historical connection more specific: it links the Canovas Ruins with a named craft and with Mabini’s local history within the municipality of El Nido.
