In Quezon, discoveries range from white-sand beaches and a sandbar to waterfalls, a cave with an underground river and ancient limestone tombs. There are also varied ways to explore, including a scenic hike, climbing, camping and firefly watching. When planning your trip, it helps to first choose your focus: coast, nature or culture.

Beaches, Sandbar and Island Activities

Cagbalete in Mauban has a white-sand beach about five kilometres long. In Pagbilao, the 500-metre-long Bilaran Sandbar is also known as Balugbog Baboy Sandbar. These places have different types of landscapes: one is a long beach, the other a sandbar. When comparing coastal destinations, you can use this distinction as a concrete guide rather than treating both as the same kind of beach destination.

Climbing is possible on Borawan Island in Padre Burgos; camping is possible on Dampalitan Island, also in Padre Burgos. These two activities offer another way to choose between coastal destinations: climbing is the focus on one island, while camping is the focus on the other. Along with Cagbalete's beach and Bilaran Sandbar, they present a range of coastal interests without conflating the places or their activities.

Caves, Waterfalls and Hiking

Bantakay Cave is in Atimonan. The water in its underground river reaches about waist height. Bantakay Falls, which is 80 feet high, is also in Atimonan. The cave and waterfall offer two clearly different natural features in the same locality.

Other waterfalls offer different highlights: Tumiis Falls in Alabat is 50 metres high and plunges down the slopes of Mt. Camagong. On the mainland of Mauban, visitors can explore the cascades of Dahoyhoy Falls. The height is a striking feature of Tumiis Falls, while Dahoyhoy is notable for its cascades and the opportunity to explore them.

Beginners can hike to Mt. Pinagbanderahan in the Quezon Protected Landscape, also called Quezon National Park. From there, Mt. Banahaw and the islands of Marinduque and Mindoro are visible. The protected area is one of four legally designated protected areas in Quezon Province. The hike therefore combines an option specifically described as suitable for beginners with a viewpoint and a distinct regional protected-area identity.

A different nature experience awaits at Pagbilao Mangrove Experimental Forest: the mangrove forest is a place to watch fireflies. This adds a wildlife-watching experience to the range of landscapes, setting it apart from the cave, waterfalls and hike.

Limestone Tombs and Distinctive Architecture

The Kamhantik Forest Park in Mulanay is home to thousand-year-old limestone tombs. A balete tree about a hundred years old also stands in the park. These features offer different points of interest: the ancient tombs as historical heritage and the tree as a defining landscape feature.

Another cultural and architectural highlight is the Luminous Cross of Grace Sanctuary in Agdangan. Built in 2004, the structure is 120 feet high and made of glass, steel and concrete. Its shape resembles a chalice. Its height, materials and form make it a distinctive architectural destination, clearly different from the limestone tombs in Mulanay.

Quezon and Finding Your Way Around the Province

Lucena, the capital of Quezon, is an important service centre and transport hub for reaching different places in the province. This role differs from that of the individual nature and cultural destinations: Lucena offers a regional point of reference, while beaches, waterfalls, the protected area and cultural sites are each associated with places such as Mauban, Atimonan, Pagbilao or Mulanay. When choosing a base for your trip, you can therefore start by deciding which experiences you want to focus on during your stay.
