Encañada brings two scales into travel planning: festival dates and the main square belong to the town, while archaeological and religious sites are also located elsewhere in the district.

Getting there and finding your way around

An asphalt road to Celendín passes through La Encañada, the district capital; it also serves as an access road to other settlements. This is a practical reference point for finding your way around the region. Check current road conditions before setting out.

Festivals and events in La Encañada

The patron saint festival of San Pedro del Uñigán takes place on June 25. Carnaval Encañadino falls in February or March. These dates offer seasonal guidance, but check the current event schedule when planning your trip.

A horse-racing competition is also associated with the patron saint festival; ask whether it is part of the program during your visit. An announcement dated December 7, 2025, listed a bullfight in honor of the Immaculate Conception at the José Carlos Mariátegui Stadium. The venue was to be a mobile bullring by VIBANDA de Daniel Abanto. This dated announcement does not replace checking events for your travel dates.

Historically, the main square served as a central meeting place for festivals and public events. The first two editions of an agrobiodiversity fair were also held there. If you are traveling for a current event, check its current venue.

Archaeology in the district

The Ventanillas de Combayo, also known as the Necrópolis de Combayo, are a funerary archaeological site more than 3,500 years old, located on Cerro San Cristóbal in the community of Combayo, in Encañada District. Its funerary character distinguishes the site from festivals in the town center and gives the archaeological focus a clear context.

The route to the Necrópolis de Combayo begins at the former Hacienda de Combayo and ends at the Cañón de Sangal. If you plan to take this route, check the current route and arrange transportation in advance.

Religious architecture and crafts

A religious complex in La Encañada District comprises a temple, a sanctuary with carved wooden balconies, and a grotto with water. Alongside the funerary structures at Combayo, this offers a religious theme with its own architectural features.

The Don Bosco Art School is also part of the district’s cultural profile. Its training areas include architectural surface design and the making of art souvenirs from wood and stone; the school serves children, young people, and adults. If you are interested in current offerings, ask locally whether the training is currently taking place.

Choose accommodation to suit your destination

La Encañada is the reference point for the patron saint festival, while Combayo is the community to visit for the Ventanillas. This lets you plan your dates and accommodation around the actual destination of your trip, rather than treating town and district locations as interchangeable.
