At Verdens Ende on the southern tip of Tjøme stands a tilting beacon, a replica built in 1932. From this striking spot, you can discover different facets of the island: panoramic views over the archipelago, a church with a long history of construction, and experiences ranging from horseback riding to Via Ferrata.

Verdens Ende: panoramic room, tilting beacon and harbour

The Færder National Park Visitor Centre is located at Verdens Ende on Tjøme. Its 360° panoramic room offers views of the tilting beacon, the Færder Lighthouse, the archipelago and the national park landscape. The centre also features engaging exhibitions. The programme may change; check it before your trip.

The Verdens Ende guest harbour is another special feature of this place: a lighted breakwater protects boats from the waves. On a broader regional scale, Færder National Park protects coastal landscapes, ecosystems, geology and cultural heritage on land and at sea in the outer Oslofjord. Its conservation remit therefore extends beyond individual visitor sites on Tjøme.

Building history and open-air stage

Tjøme Church was built of stone and brick in the Neo-Gothic style in 1866. It is a long church and stands on the site of a former medieval church. The year it was built and the location of its predecessor mark two distinct periods: the 19th-century church and the medieval church site where it was built.

Bruddet on Brøtsø near Tjøme offers a very different connection between place and culture. The open-air stage is carved into the rock of a disused quarry. It hosts concerts, theatre, dance and art; the programme of events may change. While architecture and history take centre stage at Tjøme Church, Bruddet’s character is shaped by the former quarry and its use as a stage.

Horseback riding and Via Ferrata

Stall Verdens Ende offers two-hour horseback rides through Moutmarka in Færder National Park; the stable is located on Tjøme. Booking details for the operator’s offering may change, so check them before making plans.

Via Ferrata Tjøme is a four-hour route with six different rappelling points and a final zipline. Aktiv Fritid Tjøme requires advance booking for Via Ferrata activities, both for individuals and groups. Also check the booking and route conditions before your trip.

The two activities differ in the time they take: the horseback ride lasts two hours, and the Via Ferrata route takes four. The experiences are also clearly distinct: one takes you through Moutmarka, while the other includes rappelling points and a final zipline.
