Drangedal offers a range of experiences focused on local history, culture and time by the water. Drangedal kirke and Kjeåsbrua are historic landmarks in the area; Tokestua is a cinema and cultural centre, and near Buene, a landscaped path invites you to walk along Lake Toke. If you are looking for a hotel in Drangedal, distinguishing between these options can help you plan your stay: first decide whether you would prefer to focus on cultural history, a possible concert visit or time by the water.
Town Centre, Church and History
Drangedal kirke is the main church of the parish and a landmark in the centre of Drangedal, in Prestestranda. The wooden cruciform church was completed in 1775. The church is about a 300-metre walk from the station, making it a useful landmark for finding your way around the centre.
Kjeåsbrua is also in the centre and is built of stone. It was completed in 1927 in connection with the opening of the Sørlandsbanen railway line to Kragerø. The old trading booths, Buene i Prestestranda, add to this picture of the past: they bear witness to Lake Toke’s former importance as a transport route between Drangedal and Kragerø. At Drangedal bygdetun, you can see 19 historic buildings typical of the area, from across Drangedal.
Cultural Centre and Time by Lake Toke
Tokestua is a cinema and cultural centre in the centre of Drangedal. The hall has amphitheatre-style seating for 200 people. The rooms can be hired for courses, conferences or birthday parties, and you can also attend concerts there. Plan a concert visit around the current programme. If you are planning an event or would like to hire rooms, check the capacity and terms with Tokestua in advance.
A landscaped walking path runs along Lake Toke in the Buene area, inviting you to explore and relax. Another way to spend time by the water is to go canoeing: Drangedal Municipality rents out four canoes right by the beach. Availability may change, so check before your visit.
