If you are considering Hennes as a destination for nature and culture, you can choose between two hiking experiences: the Hennesheia route, with its changing views, and the guided summit hike to Møysalen. Other attractions include the Møysalen National Park Centre in Hennes and Innlandet Church, a local cultural landmark.

Hennesheia: views in three directions

The Hennesheia route begins at the pier in Hennes and is partially marked up to the tree line. Above the tree line, the terrain is easy to walk, but the route is more difficult to follow. Conditions may vary by season.

To the east, you can see Møysalen and the mountain ridge between Møysalen and Hennesheia; to the west, the islands around Stokmarknes. From the Hennesheia route, you can look south across the Hadselfjord basin towards Raftsundet.

The Møysalen National Park Centre

The Møysalen National Park Centre was established in 2007 and is located by Møysalen National Park in Hennes, Hadsel Municipality, Nordland. A small exhibition focuses on the protected area; the centre also has a local shop and a basic café service, available during the shop’s opening hours. The café service is available during the shop’s opening hours.

Guided tour of Møysalen

The guided Møysalen tour starts in Hennes with a boat trip to Lonkanfjord. Guided hikes to the summit of 1,264-metre-high Møysalen are offered every summer from late June to late September. Exact dates may vary from year to year; check current tour dates before making firm plans for the hike.

Compared with the Hennesheia route, the main differences are in the format: the route there is defined by partial markings and changing views, while Møysalen involves a guided summit hike and a boat trip.

Church and culture in the destination of Hadsel

Innlandet Church on Hinnøya in Hadsel Municipality, Nordland, was built in 1992 as a wooden long church with 100 seats. It was formerly called Hennes Chapel. Its architectural form, year of construction and former name provide a local cultural connection alongside the natural attractions.

In the wider destination of Hadsel, there are several starting points and routes of varying lengths and difficulty for hikes to Møysalen. Neptun Sildoljefabrikk, on the small island of Svinøya off the south side of Hadseløya in Vesterålen, is a technical industrial heritage site. It illustrates the industrial fishing economy from the late 19th century to the 20th century; outdoor tours can be booked. The Kulturminneparken in Hadsel is an open-air museum showcasing a variety of cultural heritage sites and presenting Hadsel’s cultural history. While Neptun brings a specific economic and technological history to life, the park presents a broader selection of Hadsel’s cultural heritage sites.

Also in the wider destination of Hadsel, the Hurtigruten Museum offers its own guided tours of the engine room of the 1956 Hurtigruten ship MS Finnmarken. As tour arrangements may change, check the current guided tour options before planning your visit.
