Veere offers different ways to explore its history and waters: late Gothic architecture, museum exhibits and activities around the Veerse Meer. When choosing your destination, you can weigh up two main focuses: buildings and museums in town, or experiences on and by the water. For seasonal offerings, it is worth checking dates and operating schedules against your travel plans in advance.

Historic buildings in Veere

The historic town centre has many houses, streets and buildings dating from the 15th and 16th centuries. With its late Gothic design, the Stadhuis makes a distinctive impression: it is rectangular, with small towers projecting from the front. This means the focus is not only on the age of the buildings, but also on their varied forms.

Other historic buildings have different points of interest. De Stenen Beer is a bastion dating from the Napoleonic era, which visitors can still walk through today. The Campveerse Toren is one of the oldest surviving inns in the Netherlands. Together with the Stadhuis, these offer several architectural highlights for a tour through Veere’s history.

Museum and Grote Kerk

At the Schotse Huizen location of Museum Veere, visitors can see a preserved group of figures from the 16th century. Tickets for Museum Veere include admission to the Schotse Huizen and the Stadhuis. You can therefore plan visits to both museum locations together. As visiting hours may change, check the latest information before your visit.

The Grote Kerk also combines architectural history with its own way of bringing that history to life: the building was completed in 1521, and its story is told through a range of storytelling installations. The tower is 52 metres high. Access is seasonal; if you are planning a visit, check the dates for the peak season in advance.

Veere from and along the water

A Hoogaars is a typical Zeeland fishing vessel. On a trip across the Veerse Meer aboard an authentic Hoogaars, you can see Veere from the water. During the trip, the skipper talks about the town, its distinctive buildings and its history. The views and the commentary go hand in hand here, setting the trip apart from looking at the buildings from land. This is a seasonal activity offered on specific dates in 2026. Check that the dates match your travel plans before booking.

Various water sports can also be enjoyed on the Veerse Meer. If you would rather get around by bike, the “Around the Veerse Meer” route offers a different perspective: its cycle path runs almost entirely parallel to the water. The tourist ferry between Veere and Kamperland operates during the summer season. Before your trip, check whether it runs on your chosen date. The options therefore vary by activity and season, without requiring a set itinerary.

An interactive route as another way to explore

On the “Macht” Parelroute in Veere, visitors answer questions and collect letters that are used to form a word at the end. This offers a different focus from the buildings and museum exhibits: here, you explore Veere through a challenge that you solve yourself. If you plan your trip around your interests, you can add this interactive experience alongside the historic sights and seasonal offerings.
