Architectural landmarks across the decades
The Hervormde Kerk Beerzerveld at Westerweg 39 is a Neoclassical hall church with an entrance façade and a plastered façade tower with a tapering spire; it dates from 1901. The Beerzerveld parsonage at Westerweg 40 dates from 1905. On Westerdijk, there is a lift bridge over the Overijssels Kanaal dating from around 1910. The Oldambt farm at Stenendijk 5 is a modern head-and-body farmstead dating from around 1930.
The comparison highlights the span of time: the church and parsonage date from 1901 and 1905, while the bridge and farmstead date from around 1910 and around 1930, respectively. Their different architectural forms and uses provide concrete points of reference for exploring local history.
Origins and festival tradition
Beerzerveld developed as a peat colony on the southeast side of the Beerzerzand after the Overijssels Kanaal was dug in 1858. From the outset, the Zomarfeest has been aimed at Beerzerveld, Mariënberg and Beerze; visitors from outside the three villages are also welcome. In 2024, the festival reached its 20th edition. By then, an event that had been a one-day festival since 2002 had grown into one that usually lasted three days. Check the dates of the relevant edition if you are planning to attend.
