The five interconnected Loosdrecht Lakes form a watersports area. At the same time, you’ll find nature areas at Vuntus and a signposted canoe route; the Sijpekerk and the history of porcelain add a cultural dimension to your stay. When looking for a holiday rental, it helps to prioritise what matters to you: would you rather spend time on the water, plan a canoe trip, or explore historical subjects and crafts? The activities vary in type of trip, historical period and theme.

Waterways: sightseeing cruise or ferry service

Rederij Loosdrecht offers sightseeing cruises on the Vecht and the Loosdrecht Lakes all year round. De Fietsboot is a hop-on hop-off ferry service from Porseleinhaven via Markus Pos Island to De Strook recreation beach. The options therefore differ in the type of trip and the places mentioned: a sightseeing cruise on both waterways versus a service connecting three named locations. De Fietsboot is also accessible to pedestrians and people using a wheelchair or mobility scooter. If you plan to take the ferry, check the schedule in advance.

Vuntus and Drecht: natural and cultural landscape

Large parts of Vuntus are set aside for nature and are preserved and managed by Natuurmonumenten. Motorboats are prohibited in the quiet part of Vuntus; the restriction applies to this part. Natuurmonumenten’s signposted Vuntus canoe route takes about two hours and passes through a distinctive, irregular landscape of legakkers and petgaten, as well as extensive stands of water lilies and yellow water-lilies. The approximate duration gives you a clear timeframe for this trip. Vuntusstrand is a small beach on Vuntusplas, by Oud-Loosdrechtsedijk.

The Drecht is a very old river, dating from before peat extraction began. Its eastern section runs through an unspoilt patch of swamp forest and also forms the drainage system of the Ster van Loosdrecht. The Ster van Loosdrecht consists of narrow, fan-shaped ditches and is of particular cultural-historical value.

Sijpekerk: building history and open church

The Sijpekerk in Nieuw-Loosdrecht was built between around 1400 and 1450, replacing a smaller chapel. Its present form differs little from its appearance in the mid-15th century. The old baptismal font is already mentioned in the deed of foundation from 1400. The year 1400 refers to the deed of foundation; the church’s present form differs little from its appearance in the mid-15th century. The church is also used for exhibitions as part of the open church programme.

Porcelain and crafts in Oud-Loosdrecht

In 1774, Joannes de Mol, pastor in Oud-Loosdrecht and husband of Wilhelmina Jacoba van Teylingen, began work on a porcelain factory in the garden house behind his parsonage. The “Erfgoed en Ambacht 2026” programme combines a guided tour of Kasteel-Museum Sypesteyn and its historic garden with a ceramics workshop at Linda Kunst’s studios in “De Porseleinfabriek” in Oud-Loosdrecht. The tour and workshop offer different ways to explore history and crafts. Check the dates and availability of the 2026 programme before making plans.
