De Weere can be explored through two distinct interests: architectural history in the village and paths through the polder landscape. St. Lambertus Church and the Stolp farmhouse complex offer different architectural highlights; outdoors, the landscape ranges from the wet grassland at Kolk van Dussen to polder roads and the Langereis Canal. This gives you a choice between cultural history and routes through the West Frisian landscape when planning your trip.

Church, Organ and Stolp Farmhouse Complex

The longitudinally oriented St. Lambertus Church stands at the southern end of the ribbon village of De Weere. Nicolaas Molenaar designed the building, which was constructed in 1907. The church has the case and pipework of a mechanical organ dating from 1885. The instrument had two manuals, an attached pedal and ten stops; the specified parts were transferred to the newly built church in 1908. The organ’s history therefore extends beyond the year the church was built.

The Stolp farmhouse complex at Driestedenweg 45 is a building constructed in 1913 in the derived North Holland type. Together with its associated gate, the complex is considered a well-preserved example of early 20th-century agricultural architecture and is of general architectural and cultural-historical interest. The church represents religious architecture with its own organ history, while the farmhouse complex represents rural building culture.

Polder Paths, Birds and Routes

Rondje De Hooge Weere is a walking route through the polder between Lambertschaag, De Weere and Abbekerk. It follows the Pannepad, a partly paved cycling and walking path along Kolk van Dussen. The kolk features channels and wet grassland. Among other species, avocets and little ringed plovers nest in its shallow water; their presence varies seasonally. If you are particularly interested in birds, take this seasonal change into account when planning your trip.

De Weere lies on several cycling routes through the West Frisian landscape. The Opmeerder Wuivertocht passes through the village along quiet polder roads with views of the West Frisian agricultural landscape. The Langereisroute is a longer variant of the yellow route. Its additional loop passes through the Groene Pade water-storage area and along the Langereis Canal.

Specific landscape features can help you compare the routes: Rondje and the Pannepad run along the kolk; the Opmeerder Wuivertocht offers views across the agricultural landscape. The Langereisroute differs in being a longer variant of the yellow route, with an additional loop through Groene Pade and along the Langereis Canal.

Cyclists can take a break at ’t Centrum in De Weere for coffee and artisan apple pie. Menu details may change, so check what is on offer in advance. Route signage and conditions can also change. Checking the latest updates before setting out helps you plan according to the conditions.
