Blaricum is known for its heathland and also offers points of interest for art and history enthusiasts. Options include short walks, a route with a specified length, public art information boards and events at Theater Blaricum. Guided walks through the village are also organised. This gives you the flexibility to choose different areas of focus when planning your trip and to take your cue from the specific activities on offer.
Heathland and Walks in Blaricum
The expansive Blaricummerheide and Tafelbergheide define Blaricum’s connection with nature. Three short walks start at Heemtuin Blaricum. One of them passes through the Warandebergen, a surviving glacial moraine. This means the walk is also linked to a distinctive geological landform. If you would like to include a route with a specified length in your plans, the Tafelberg- en Blaricummerheide route is 7.5 kilometres long and passes the Schaapskooi of Goois Natuurreservaat.
At the Schaapskooi, you can also experience the heathland by seeing the flock of sheep there. 50 sheep leave at around 8 a.m., can be seen in the nature reserve and return to the Schaapskooi on the Blaricummerheide at around 4 p.m. These times are approximate and can help you plan your day if you would like to see the flock. Grazing by sheep helps preserve this special natural area.
Art, History and Culture
The Kunstbordenroute showcases works by artists who lived and worked in Laren and Blaricum. The route uses 16 information boards in public spaces. Its connection to both villages is part of the theme: the boards introduce you to works by these artists, along with their lives and work in Laren and Blaricum.
The village’s history also reaches far back. Blaricum began as an agricultural settlement; the first people settled in Blaricum’s heathland and woodland in the tenth century or possibly earlier. A later architectural landmark is the music pavilion at the southern corner of Torenlaan and Dorpsstraat. It was built in 1926 to a design by H. F. Symons in the Amsterdam School style. Stolpersteine have also been laid in Blaricum in memory of victims of National Socialism.
Theater Blaricum hosts film and theatre screenings, as well as concerts. Check the current programme dates separately if you would like to combine your visit with a performance. These events complement the outdoor activities and historical themes with another option for planning your trip.
Guided Walks and Getting Around
The Historische Kring Blaricum organises guided walks through Blaricum. By arrangement, walks can start at a location of your choice. If a particular starting point is important to you, arrange this before your trip; starting at that location requires prior coordination.
Electric and regular Voi rental bikes are available at various locations in Blaricum, such as bus stops and residential areas. As operators and locations may change, check the current locations before setting off. The information about walks, guided tours and rental bikes covers different ways to explore Blaricum or get around the village. Depending on your interests, you can therefore decide whether to plan your visit around the heathland, art and history, or a cultural event.
