Sint Michielsgestel offers cultural, historical and scenic highlights: Landgoed Haanwijk, with its museum and historic buildings; paths along the Dommel; and Landgoed Zegenwerp. Wine tastings and tours at Wijngoed Wolf add to the options; the winery is near the village of Sint Michielsgestel.
Landgoed Haanwijk: History and Museum
Landgoed Haanwijk came into being when Jacob Sweerts de Landas (1587–1673) bought Haanwijk farmstead in 1651. The estate includes centuries-old trees, a historic dike, a country house, a bakehouse, a ferry house and farmhouses. Landscape features and various historic buildings together shape the estate’s character.
At the Romeins Halder Museum on Landgoed Haanwijk, visitors can choose between the “Roerige Romeinen” and “Knarsende Knagers” routes. A cultural and historical guided tour of archaeological sites can also be booked. Visitors can therefore choose between two options: one of the named routes or a tour focusing on the sites.
Walks and Paths along the Dommel
The 6.4-kilometre walking route across Landgoed Haanwijk passes centuries-old trees and historic buildings and runs through the picturesque Dommeldal. Another route is 3.6 kilometres long, follows the Dommel between Boxtel and Sint-Michielsgestel, and passes the Zegenwerp golf course. The difference in length is 2.8 kilometres. The routes also differ in their focus: the longer one crosses the estate and runs through the Dommeldal, while the shorter one follows the river between two towns.
Opened in June 2025, the Dommelpad offers cyclists and pedestrians a safer shared path and invites them to enjoy the Dommel and the surrounding nature. It adds a route for cyclists and pedestrians to the walking options, which they can use together.
Estate and Wine
Landgoed Zegenwerp covers 70 hectares. It lies south of the built-up centre of Sint Michielsgestel, on the west bank of the Dommel, and is owned by the Het Brabants Landschap foundation.
Wijngoed Wolf is near the village of Sint Michielsgestel and offers wine tastings as well as tours of the vineyard and wine cellar. These are different ways to visit: a wine tasting focuses on sampling the wine, while a tour takes visitors through the vineyard and cellar. The vineyard lies on historic soils in the Meierij van ’s-Hertogenbosch, specifically on a centuries-old raised field. Its soil layer consists of humus, clay and various types of sand. This specific connection to the soil also helps place the winery in context.
