The Reuselse Moeren give Reusel a distinctive connection to nature: they are the remains of a largely excavated raised bog area that extended on both sides of the present-day national border. The habitats there include wet heathland, dry coniferous forest and spontaneously grown birch woodland. Different landscape types therefore sit side by side, rather than the Moeren being described solely by the word “moor.” A seasonal qualification is also important for wildlife watching: the presence of smooth snakes and moor frogs can vary.

The Reuselse Kei adds a different time scale: the erratic boulder is 550 million years old. While the Moeren, with their landscape history and habitats, shape the area’s connection to nature, this stone points to a very great geological age. These different themes can be considered separately when planning, without combining them into a single route or shared excursion destination.

Routes with Different Themes

For mountain biking, the Cirkelroute Reusel runs south of Reusel through the Peelsche Heide woodland. It is classified as a blue, intermediate route and follows singletrack for most of its length. The route, classification and information about the surface may be adjusted. So check the current route information before setting off, especially if you are choosing your ride based on these features.

The Witte-Vos cycling route around Reusel offers a different scale: it is 53 kilometres in total and comprises a 28-kilometre northern loop and a 25-kilometre southern loop. The route is connected with the smuggling history of Reusel and the surrounding area in the early 20th century. If you are looking for a historical connection on a bike ride, this route links your choice of distance with local history.

There is also the Witte-Vos Discovery Route for children, which is 2.7 kilometres long. It invites children to follow a smuggling trail and complete smuggling challenges along the way. The two Witte-Vos offerings therefore differ considerably in length and format: a 53-kilometre cycling route and a short discovery route for children, with the smuggling theme brought to life through activities.

Wildlife Encounters and a Regular Weekly Schedule

At Kinderboerderij Hollandershoeve, visitors can pet cows, cuddle rabbits and watch goats climb trees. There is also a nature-inspired playground. These animal activities may depend on operating conditions; if they are important to your visit, check in advance what is currently available.

Another specific time marker is the weekly market in the centre of Reusel. It takes place every Friday from 11:00 to 17:00. Market hours can change, so it is a good idea to check the schedule before travelling. This lets you include the market as a separate activity, while the routes and nature themes offer other focuses.

An Artwork Between Geography and Symbolism

The Januskop stands on the watershed between the Scheldt and Meuse drainage basins. The two-faced artwork symbolises opposites: the female face points south and the male face north. Here, geographical location and design come together in a concrete motif; the two opposing directions of gaze suit the work’s theme without needing an additional story.
