Eindhoven tells the story of its industrial heritage as more than just the past: at Strijp-S, former Philips factory buildings are now part of a creative district. Green spaces such as Genneper Parken in the south offer a different view of the city. Museums, art in Stadswandelpark and paths through nature offer further perspectives on Eindhoven—from technological history to quiet moments of observation by the water.
Industrial History and Design
Strijp-S is a former Philips industrial site that has been transformed into a creative district offering cultural, residential and work spaces. The former factory buildings Klokgebouw, Microlab, Videolab, Veemgebouw and Apparatenfabriek now house workshops, offices and meeting places. Visitors can see exhibitions, shop for Eindhoven design and take a look inside creative workshops such as New Order of Fashion and Broeinest.
Those looking beyond Strijp-S can follow the Strijp Design Route to see technology and design highlights at Strijp-S, Strijp-T and Strijp-R. The three Philips industrial sites were developed between the 1920s and 1950s and are now home to exhibitions, design studios, creative workshops and innovative companies. Check route information before your visit.
City History and Art
Specially designed plaques about Eindhoven’s urban heritage explain both landmarks still visible today and places and events that have disappeared. This makes it possible to trace the city’s historical development at various stops. You can plan a route along the plaques using an interactive digital map.
The Philips Museum offers a particularly direct link to industrial history: it is housed in the historic factory building where Gerard Philips made his first light bulbs in 1891. The museum tells the story of Philips—from electric lighting and radio to the introduction of X-ray technology and television, and on to the digital age. It is a ten-minute walk from the central station; the museum is also accessible by bus via the Piazza or Vrijstraat stops. Check public transport connections before travelling.
Art and nature come together at Stadswandelpark, where 30 sculptures connect the two themes. The Van Abbemuseum focuses on an international collection of more than 3,400 works of art, a selection of which is on display in the building. The two venues offer different experiences—art in the park and a collection in a museum.
Green Routes and Landscapes
Genneper Parken is in the south of Eindhoven and is considered one of the largest parks in the Netherlands. The historic stream valley landscape is home to Genneper Watermolen. Alongside art and culture, the parks offer numerous sports and leisure activities. Various paths wind through nature, including routes along the Dommel and the Tongelreep; there is also mini golf.
One way to explore the area on foot is the “Eindje Om De Dommel” walk. It passes green spaces such as the city garden and cultural-historical sites such as the factory wall of NV Linnenfabrieken Briel & Verster, and takes approximately 90 minutes. With a little luck, you may spot kingfishers, grey wagtails and banded demoiselles along the way.
Landgoed de Wielewaal offers a different landscape: open fields, flower-rich edges and paths through varied natural surroundings. On a walk, you may be lucky enough to spot deer, foxes or kingfishers. The estate’s gates opened for the first time in more than a hundred years in September 2025, allowing visitors to discover the Philips heritage there. Check local access conditions before visiting. Paths in Philips de Jongh Wandelpark wind between monumental trees.
Orchards and Local Tastings
Philips Fruittuin is an orchard established by Philips along the Groene Corridor, which you can explore by bike or on foot. Visitors can pick fruit and buy local juice at the Landwinkel; the seasonal selection may vary. Genneper Hoeve also offers organic products, including ice cream, in Genneper Parken. The products on offer may change.
Electric rental bikes, scooters and cars are available for getting around Eindhoven; mobility hubs are located at various points across the city. Providers and locations may change, so check the latest information before using them.
