Vragender offers several different ways to enjoy a stay: a distinctive raised bog, historic chapel ruins, a grain mill, and specific opportunities for walking and cycling. Access to the Vragenderveen is only possible with a guide; walking and cycling options have their own starting points or route connections.

Moorland and chapel grounds

Together with the neighbouring Meddosche Veen, Corlese Veen and Korenburgerveen moorlands, the Vragenderveen is one of the few remaining living raised bog areas in the Netherlands. The Vragenderveen can only be visited with expert guides. Arrange your visit with the responsible organisation before travelling.

The Sint Jacobskapel has not been used since 1650 and fell into ruin. During the redevelopment of the former chapel grounds, completed in 2024, paths were laid, the original chapel was marked out with a stone outline, a bed of Stinzen plants was created, and new information panels were installed. The outline traces the chapel's floor plan; the paths, flower bed and panels were part of the redevelopment of the grounds.

The surviving deed of endowment dated 23 April 1444 names the Onze Lieve Vrouwe Kapel as the recipient, not the Sint Jacobskapel. It records that Herman Stemerdink transferred four plots of land near the Leeferinck estate to the Onze Lieve Vrouwe Kapel so that a chapel could be built.

Mill, church and local history

De Vier Winden is a working grain mill and a Rijksmonument in Vragender. The Sint-Antonius van Paduakerk is a local landmark. These are two distinct types of buildings: a grain mill with listed monument status and a church that shapes the village's appearance.

Walking and cycling

The Tradvatpad is a sporty walking and exercise trail of about five kilometres. Various exercises along the way give the trail its active character. Its approximate length and the nature of the trail will help you decide whether it suits you if you're looking for a walk with exercise activities during your stay.

TOP Beneman is a useful reference point for planning walks: it is starting point 36 on the local walking network. You can plan routes using the Achterhoek walking route planner. This combines a named starting point with a route-planning tool, without requiring you to follow a set route.

There are also several options for cycling trips. From TOP Beneman, you can reach cycle junctions 38, 41, 80 and 86, as well as various themed cycling routes. Vragender is also on the Karakteristieke Kerkdorpen rondom Lichtenvoorde cycling route. When choosing between the activities, the difference is useful to bear in mind: the Tradvatpad is described in terms of its sporty character, exercises and approximate length, while the junctions and route connections offer other ways to find your bearings for walks and cycling trips.
