Brummen offers several different ways to explore the area: a late Gothic church, routes with historical themes and river landscapes, open studios and regional produce. There are also guided tours and workshops at Voedselbos Nieuwe Erven. Whether you are more interested in architectural history, special routes or local products, the specific activities offer different focal points for planning your trip.

Church architecture, history and open studios

The Oude of Pancratiuskerk is a single-nave late Gothic church with a three-sided chancel. During restoration, a side aisle with an extension was added in 1937. The architectural form and later extension are specific features that can be used to describe the church without conflating the different building phases.

History is also the focus of the “Oorlog en bevrijding” walking route: in Brummen, it passes several important sites associated with the Second World War. This is a different way to explore the area from a route where you can listen to historical stories while cycling.

During the Open Atelierdagen, ten artists open their doors to visitors together over four weekends each year. As the dates vary from year to year, check before your trip whether the event falls during your travel dates.

Cycling routes with different themes

The “De Lanen van Toen” audio route starts at Brummen railway station. You can listen to historical stories while cycling. Its named starting point and audio format give this route a different character from the “IJsselhopper”: this route also starts in Brummen and shortly afterwards leads into the floodplains.

Another option is the “Klassiek Brummen” cycling route. It leads to Kasteel Engelenburg and Pannenkoekbakkerij Reuvershoeve. The routes therefore differ in their stated themes and destinations: historical stories to listen to, the transition into the floodplains, or the two stops mentioned. If a particular stop is important to your plans, check the current route description, as route stops may change.

Kasteel Engelenburg has a 9-hole golf course. If you are planning your trip around golf, check the course’s availability in advance; it may change.

Food forest, produce and parkland

Voedselbos Nieuwe Erven is one of the first food forest parks of its kind in the Netherlands. Guided tours and workshops are held there regularly. The park combines its distinctive status as a food forest with specific activities for visitors.

De Brummenaer focuses on produce and sales: the farm produces milk, farmhouse cheese, hazelnuts and walnuts. Milk and cheese are sold in a self-service milk shop. In this way, the guided tours and workshops at Voedselbos differ from shopping directly at the self-service outlet.

Landgoed Huis Den Bosch is also located near Brummen. Its historic garden and park grounds can be explored freely; the manor house itself and its immediate surroundings are private. This distinction is important when planning a visit: the freely accessible area is the garden and park grounds, not the private house and its immediate surroundings.
