Sandy beaches and dunes shape the coastal character of Doni Štoj; wetlands in the Bojana Delta add to its natural appeal. The area includes the subareas of Velika Plaža and Ada Bojana, bringing together two distinct focal points for beach and water activities. At the same time, it is connected to Ulcinj’s central urban area by a bridge over the Port Milena Canal. When choosing where to stay, you can consider the coast, the delta and the connection to the city as different aspects of the same location choice.
Coast and Delta
Around Velika Plaža, sandy beaches and dunes are part of the landscape, along with Mediterranean vegetation and pine forest. In the Bojana Delta, wetlands and scrubland provide habitats for native plants, amphibians, reptiles and birds. This brings different types of nature into focus: a coast shaped by sand formations and wetter delta habitats. These highlights are easy to distinguish when planning a trip: Velika Plaža stands for beach scenery, dunes and pine forest, while the delta is known for wetlands and scrubland.
Water Sports and Beach Facilities
Velika Plaža is a kitesurfing spot; Ada Bojana offers water sports. This gives you two distinct activity options: kitesurfing specifically at Velika Plaža and a broader range of water sports at Ada Bojana. Seasonal conditions and local arrangements may vary at both. If a particular activity is important to your stay, check local conditions for your travel dates.
Hills Beach has a restaurant, beach equipment and a lifeguard service. These facilities may be seasonal. If you want to plan your beach days around them, ask about current conditions in advance.
Camping and Accommodation Options
Hills Camping offers wooden bungalows and space for campers beside the beach. Its camping facilities may change, so check before booking. Tourist Camping Giovanni’s Beach is located in Doni Štoj and offers mobile homes in a natural setting. The beach is around 900 metres away. The site also has a restaurant serving food and drinks; it may operate seasonally. Check current visitor facilities before your trip.
MCM Camping is also located in Doni Štoj. Before booking, make sure the site is currently operating. The accommodation options mentioned differ: Hills Camping focuses on wooden bungalows and space for campers right beside the beach, while Giovanni’s offers mobile homes in a natural setting and is around 900 metres from the beach. When comparing them, you can take both the type of accommodation and the stated beach distance into account, without treating the campsites as equivalent options.
Culture in the Wider Destination of Ulcinj
In the wider destination of Ulcinj, the Old Town offers a distinct historical highlight. It was protected as a cultural asset of national importance in 1961. Its upper section, dominated by the citadel, has a military character; below it lies a civilian settlement surrounded by fortification walls. The Church of St. Mary in the Old Town was built in 1510 and converted into a mosque in 1571. This history adds a distinct perspective on Ulcinj to Doni Štoj’s coastal and natural highlights, without attributing the Old Town’s features to Doni Štoj.
