Buljarica combines a 2,250-metre stretch of coastline with a wetland behind the beach and Gradište Monastery on a hill in the area. Beach, nature and cultural history thus offer three clearly distinct themes for planning your trip.

Beach, Wetland and Camping

At 2,250 metres, Buljarica Beach is the longest beach on the Budva Riviera. Its character varies by section: closer to Petrovac, the beach is sandy, while most of it is pebbly and rocky. It also offers a wide swimming area. For planning purposes, both its length and the changing terrain are relevant; the coastline does not have the same character throughout.

The Buljarica wetland lies behind the beach. It is considered a nature reserve and provides a habitat for numerous rare plant and bird species. For nature enthusiasts, its flora and fauna offer a different perspective on Buljarica from the bathing area. The coastal landscape and the wetland thus stand side by side as distinct aspects of the area.

Camp Buljarica offers coastal camping with 60 pitches for mobile homes and caravans, as well as 35 tent pitches. Visitors who are only there for the day can also use the camp. The facilities therefore include both overnight camping and day use. As capacity may change, check availability before your trip.

Gradište Monastery: Churches and History

Gradište Monastery is located on a hill in Buljarica. The complex comprises three churches and a monastic residence. The churches contain historic iconostases and a rare icon of Saint Christopher. The ensemble thus offers a distinct cultural attraction alongside the beach and wetland.

Gradište is also associated with the history of printing: the monastery is credited with authoring the first Serbian reader, which was printed in Venice in 1597. The year refers to the printing of the reader; it does not date the monastery’s founding. For those interested in cultural history, Gradište thus connects the religious complex with a traditional association with the history of Serbian writing.

In the wider destination of Budva

In the wider destination of Budva, other cultural and coastal themes offer a broader view of the region. Budva’s Old Town is surrounded by medieval walls with a fortress, towers and gates. The citadel in the Old Town offers views of the city and houses a small museum, a library and a fish relief that symbolizes Budva. The Museum of the City of Budva presents archaeological and ethnographic exhibitions.

The City Theatre Festival is also part of Budva’s cultural offering: it was founded in 1987 and takes place during the summer months. The squares and courtyards of the Old Town become stages for the festival. Check the specific event dates when planning your trip. For another coastal comparison, Mogren Beach consists of two beaches connected by a tunnel. This allows you to consider both cultural sites and different types of beaches when deciding on a trip to Budva.
