A wall of water about 25 metres wide and 8 metres high gives the Green Waterfall in Molovata a clear sense of scale. There is also a canyon with distinctive flora in Oxentea and the “Farmecul Nistrului” ecotourism trail, which runs for about four kilometres between Mărcăuți, Molovata and Molovata Nouă. Together, these places reveal different sides of Dubăsari District: nature, cultural heritage, crafts and living traditions.
Nature and orientation along the Dniester
The Green Waterfall in Molovata stands out for its size: the wall of water is about 25 metres wide and 8 metres high. In Oxentea, another natural attraction is the distinctive flora of a canyon. The two places offer different highlights: the striking width and height of a wall of water in one, and the plant life of a canyon in the other.
The “Farmecul Nistrului” ecotourism trail runs between Mărcăuți, Molovata and Molovata Nouă and is about four kilometres long. It provides a clear route for exploring these three places. In 2025, the trail was reported to have markers, information boards and rest areas. Its digitalisation in the Eco App Moldova was also described in 2025; the app offers maps, information about biodiversity and local stories. Check whether the app is available before making your plans.
Another practical point of reference is the ferry from Molovata: it connects Molovata and Molovata Nouă across the Dniester and runs daily. Check the timetable before travelling. The trail and the ferry offer different ways to plan your journey: one takes you between three places, while the other lets you cross the river.
Churches, monuments and crafts
Twelve folk artisans work in Dubăsari District. Their fields include pottery and artistic woodworking, as well as embroidery, artistic weaving and plant-fibre crafts. These different crafts show the diversity of the region’s craft traditions, from working with clay and wood to creating textiles and items from plant fibres.
Architectural and natural monuments also tell stories from different periods. The Church of Saint Alexei in Pohrebea is a 19th-century architectural monument; Pohrebea is also home to a monastery carved into the rock. The “Acoperămîntul Maicii Domnului” Church in Marcăuţi dates from 1816. In Pîrîta stands the Suvorov Oak, which is over 400 years old. The old cemetery with tombstones in Molovata dates back to the 18th and 19th centuries. The date, age and form of each of these sights give it its own historical context.
Museums in several places offer more cultural points of interest. Cocieri is home to a house museum dedicated to filmmaker Vlad Ioviță. The Doroțcaia Museum of History and Ethnography is located in the village centre. In Molovata Nouă, the Museum of Local History and Ethnography reopened in early 2012 after extensive renovation. Film history, local history and ethnography offer different ways to explore the region.
Traditions and event dates
IA MANIA is an annual folk traditions festival held in Holercani. The programme includes live music, traditional food, crafts, workshops and exhibitions. The 2026 edition took place on 5 July. In Molovata Nouă, Village Day is celebrated annually on 28 August; programme details may change. If you would like to plan your trip around a festival, check the announced dates and programme details in advance. This helps you distinguish year-round attractions—such as churches, museums and natural sites—from events that take place on specific dates.
This mix offers different ways to discover the region: you can explore natural features and the trail between three places, visit historic buildings and museums, or focus on crafts and festival traditions. These specific places and themes help you explore Dubasari according to your own interests.
