The “Adormirea Maicii Domnului” church was built partly below ground level. Its unusual construction makes it a distinctive starting point for exploring the cultural side of Causeni. It has the status of a museum monument and reopened in March 2024 after restoration. Terracotta tile fragments discovered in the church courtyard are on display at the Căușeni District Museum of History and Ethnography. This brings the unusual building and archaeological finds from its courtyard into a shared perspective.

The district museum also displays fossils of a deinotherium discovered in a local sandstone quarry. This brings different contexts of discovery into focus: fragments from the church courtyard and fossils from a quarry in Căușeni. For those interested in cultural history, architecture is brought together here with archaeological and natural history finds.

Monasteries, Museums and Cultural Traces

The “Sfintele Femei Mironosițe Marta și Maria” Monastery is located near the village of Hagimus. It is regarded as a place of prayer and spiritual retreat; its history dates back to May 26, 1997. The complex includes four churches and two chapels. These details depict a diverse monastic ensemble whose religious character is reflected both in its described use and in its composition.

Another gateway to literature and culture leads to Căinari: the “Alexei Mateevici” House Museum opened on March 16, 1968. Its program includes poetry recitals and literary-musical performances related to Alexei Mateevici. The museum thus combines its institutional history with a cultural program that draws on poetry and music.

In Sălcuța, the Căușeni district monument register lists the “Ioan Zlotea” House Museum as a local art monument, dated December 10, 2008. Also in Sălcuța, the “Aleea Genezei” comprises eight works carved from wood. Copanca is associated with a craft specializing in woodcarving. Woodwork can therefore be encountered here in different forms: as a craft and as a group of carved works.

The Trajan’s Wall is a large-scale historical trace that runs through the entire territory of Căușeni District. It adds a theme concerning the district as a whole to the individual churches, museums and works of art.

Nature, Wine and Routes

The “Nistrul de Jos” National Park is a habitat for waterbirds. It is also intended for scientific, cultural, tourist, instructional and educational use. Nature enthusiasts will find a different focus here than at the buildings and museums: a habitat for waterbirds and a park whose purpose also includes sharing knowledge and cultural use.

Winegrowing is another regional theme. Leuntea-Vin is a fourth-generation winemaking dynasty that preserves a historic wine cellar where wine is stored in wooden barrels. Tradition and storage methods give the subject two concrete dimensions: the passing down of winemaking through generations and the use of a historic cellar.

In Căușeni, Vinăria Gogu offers wine tastings by prior reservation. If a tasting interests you, make sure to plan for this requirement. This specific wine experience can thus be distinguished from the history of the cellar at Leuntea-Vin.

For a trip with cycling in mind, the Căușeni–Cioburciu cycle route is another option to consider: it is 68 km long. The stated distance provides a concrete figure for planning without specifying how long the ride will take.

You can prioritize the different themes according to your interests: church and museum history, religious sites, nature and waterbirds, wine or woodwork. Causeni offers both individual cultural discoveries and broader connections, such as the Trajan’s Wall and the national park intended for multiple uses.
