“Reciful Ialoveni” is a state-protected geological and paleontological natural monument covering an area of 3 hectares. If you are interested in natural history, “Reciful Ialoveni” complements the churches, collections and wine experiences in Ialoveni District. Geology studies the structure and development of the Earth, while paleontology studies past life forms. At “Reciful Ialoveni,” these two related but distinct topics in natural history come together: the formation of the Earth and the history of life.
Churches, Collections and Urban Spaces
Two dates tell the story of the “Sfînta Cuvioasa Parascheva” church in Ialoveni: it was consecrated on October 14, 1819, according to the old calendar; the present church was built of stone in 1897.
“Sfatul Țării” Park is on Strada Sfatul Țării in the center of Ialoveni. A bust of King Ferdinand I was erected in the central park in 1938.
The “Petru Costin” Collections Gallery in Ialoveni displays thousands of exhibits from different periods. It therefore offers a broad view across time, unlike the history of a single building or monument. The “Anatol Candu” District Museum of History and Ethnography in Văsieni is the only museum of its kind in Ialoveni District. While the gallery presents its collections across different periods, the museum has an explicit focus on history and ethnography. Ethnography studies ways of life, cultural practices and social relationships.
Wine and the Puhoi–Geamăna Route
The wine-related sites also have distinct historical reference points: Vinuri Ialoveni has been operating since 1953; Asconi Winery in Puhoi, in Ialoveni District, was founded in 1994 and preserves local winemaking traditions. Guided winery tours with wine tastings are offered at Asconi.
The Puhoi–Geamăna route offers another point of reference. It runs for about 10 kilometers from Puhoi to Geamăna.
Festivals and Animal Experiences
In the village of Cărbuna in Ialoveni District, the “Taurul Negru de Cărbuna” festival has been an annual tradition since 2018. Since 2021, it has transformed the area around Castelul Sfântului Ilie into a medieval town. The festival features tastings of local products, as well as interactive workshops and activities for the whole family. If you want to plan your trip around the festival, check the specific festival dates in advance.
Bardar Zoo Club is home to more than 50 animal species. Visitors can take guided tours, feed or pet animals, and enjoy horseback rides and carriage rides.
