A first gastronomic and agrotourism tour in Ejido El Coyote brought together a total of 20 tourists in 2022. The tour connected tastings, prepared dishes, a baked-goods showcase on the plaza, and a guided visit to olive groves. This offers a way to get to know El Coyote through a tangible connection between cuisine and agriculture. If you are planning to visit specifically for a culinary program, ask in advance about current dates.
Culinary Tour in Ejido El Coyote
At the start of the tour, participants sampled brewed coffee, café de olla, and champurrado. There were also teas made with basil, rosemary, and lemon leaves. The menu featured chiles rellenos, gorditas filled with chicharrón in green sauce and rajas, as well as tamales. Families from Ejido El Coyote prepared dishes from Zacatecas, Veracruz, and Sonora. The selection thus brought together different regional culinary traditions in a single program.
A pastry and baked-goods showcase was also part of the tour on the plaza in El Coyote. The baked goods on display included oatmeal cookies, cornbread, carrot bread, coricos, coyotas, and cakes. The plaza is considered a place where families gather; the showcase fit into this community setting. Another program stop, accompanied by Eliseo Montellano, took visitors to olive groves. There, they learned about olive cultivation in the Municipality of Caborca.
Culture and Public Spaces
Casa de la Cultura Ejido El Coyote is a cultural space managed by Caborca’s municipal cultural authority. Also, the cultural program “Aventuras Culturales Verano 2022” launched in the ejido in 2022. Both add a cultural perspective on the place to its culinary story. If a particular cultural offering is a deciding factor for your travel dates, ask in advance about current dates.
Municipal facilities are also part of the local landscape. Five 120-watt lamps and three 60-watt lamps were installed in Ejido El Coyote’s park. The aim was to improve lighting and make the park safer for young people and adults to use. These details describe the installation and its purpose.
The improvement work reported in June 2022 at the soccer field included wiring for 18 floodlights and six poles; bleachers were also built. Together with the park, this gives a concrete sense of the public spaces in the ejido that have lighting and sports infrastructure. The soccer field details refer to the work carried out at the time, not to an event or match schedule for your trip.
Caborca in a Broader Context
The wider destination of Caborca offers additional cultural topics and a distinct regional perspective. The Museo Histórico y Etnográfico de Caborca has four galleries: two feature permanent exhibitions, while two are designated for temporary exhibitions by artists from the region and beyond. At La Proveedora, thousands of petroglyphs depict plants, animals, and human figures; archaeological settlement there began around 2500 BCE. The municipality describes La Proveedora as the place with the largest number of petroglyphs in Latin America.
Cerro Prieto is another archaeological site in the wider destination of Caborca. It has around 200 petroglyphs and is considered the place where Padre Kino founded the community of Caborca in 1692. For a different kind of landscape, there is Puerto Lobos, a coastal destination in Caborca with rocky cliffs and extensive beaches. It is a good place for nature watching, photography, and outdoor activities. These regional topics differ from the local culinary tour and offer additional points of reference to help you choose the focus of your trip.
