In Alytus, lakeside scenery, park activities and a range of museum experiences offer concrete options for a stay. The two Dailidė Lakes, paths in Kurorto Park and exhibitions about the region’s history provide different ways to discover the city. Also on offer are a memorial museum with a preserved study and seasonal wakeboarding.

Lakes and Parks

The Small and Large Dailidė Lakes are former channels of the Nemunas. Walking and cycling paths run around the lakes in Kurorto Park. The park also has beaches, fitness areas, relaxation zones, beach volleyball courts and children’s playgrounds. This gives you a range of options: take a walk or cycle, stop for a break at the beach, or spend time at one of the listed play or fitness areas. You can choose your focus depending on whether you would rather be on the move or plan a relaxing break.

The 97.1-hectare Kurorto Park was established in a natural pine forest in 1930. This adds a specific connection to the forest landscape and a dated history of the park to the lakes and paths. Jaunimo Park offers a point of comparison: it was established in 1982, while Kurorto Park dates back to 1930.

Museums: Regional History and Literature

Founded in 1928, the Alytus Regional Museum presents the history of the Alytus region through modern, interactive exhibitions. Its educational programme includes events on Lithuanian history, numismatics, archaeology and ethnography. Numismatics is the study of coins; here, it is one of several subject areas alongside archaeological and ethnographic content.

Educational events make use of exhibition display cases and also include practical activities. The museum offers mobile educational events as well as bookable programmes for birthdays, friends and families. These options therefore differ both in subject and format. As exhibitions may change, check the current exhibition or events programme before your visit.

The two museums have different emphases: the Alytus Regional Museum presents regional history across several subject areas, while the Anzelmas Matutis Memorial Museum focuses on the living and working environment of a single writer. Visitors interested in culture can therefore choose between a broader regional-historical approach and a biographical perspective.

The Anzelmas Matutis Memorial Museum is housed in the home where children’s poet and educator Anzelmas Matulevičius-Matutis lived from 1961 to 1985. On the second floor, his study is preserved with its authentic furnishings, library, souvenirs and personal belongings. The dates place the site within a clearly defined period of his life; the preserved working environment gives the memorial museum its distinctive literary connection.

Wakeboarding and a Sweet Treat

VIVI Wake Park is located in Kurorto Park on the shore of the Large DailidÄ— Lake, next to a beach, and offers wakeboarding. The activity is seasonal and available in summer. If you would like to plan this activity, check current seasonal and operating information before your visit.

The menu at Traukinys M23 café features waffles with various fillings, Napoleon chocolate cake and the Vienuolės dessert. These dishes give you a specific idea for a sweet break. If you are coming for a particular dessert, check the current menu in advance, as menus may change.
